  • Big bend is a beautiful park and very different to other parks in the state. Be aware that if you go any time other than the winter that heat can be extreme especially if you are in the valley. Also note that because this is a national park it can be a little more restrictive, if your looking for a little more freedom and solitude you might also want to check out big bend ranch state park about two hours away. Both parks offer great hiking, beautiful views, and abundant off reading opportunities.
  • Big Bend was a little above average for the parks we've visited. The highlight of the park for sure is the hot springs. Fun to sit in and enjoy the scenery by the river. We hiked up some trails to overlook the river and get a better view. Across the river are some really big peaks and mesa looking mountains. We also stopped to look at one of the fossil sites, although it was freezing out and windy so it made for a quick viewing of the exhibits. The examples of the skeletons and the femur bone were pretty interesting.
  • Amazing park! Definitely stay for the star display at night. There were good hikes for all ages and most trails were easy to locate with good signage. We did this park in 3 days, but you can easily extend it to 7 days and still not be able to see all the nooks and crannies of this park.
  • Amazing. You need weeks to explore everything, maybe months. The views are breathtaking. You'll likely take millions of pictures. I want to go back and camp and explore more. I'm currently researching more so I can maximize our next trip out there. There is a small gas station in the park, likely due to it's size. Add this place to your bucket list. There is enough to see from the car if you are not able to do the hiking or camping. Stay until dark to see the brightest stars of your life with almost no light pollution.
  • I have visited over 20 national parks all over the United States - from the Virginian Appalachian to the Utah canyons - and Big Bend was hands down my favorite place. Huge and so out of the way that only dedicated adventurers visited, this place is an awesome oasis in the middle of a giant desert. It's also the only park I've been to where driving was a huge part of my stay. Centers and hikes are hours of driving away from each other, so prepare for that.
