  • I've visited here a few times. There are a few fun shops and quite a few artists actively working in the building. What they have is nice but there is a lot of space for them to do more.  more »

  • If you are visiting old Town Alexandria (especially summer months)and need place to cool off from all sightseeing this place may be it if you enjoy arts. Soak in enormous artistic talents of local artists and many medias..this place has it all. It's quite unique and views from art studios are better then one from crowded harbour deck below it's building. It's free to enter. Amazing gift to take home with you.
  • I am really glad we have a place like this outside of DC to enjoy local art/artists. It's especially interesting to meet the contributors as you visit and view the exhibits from their actual studio spaces. Bring your pocket book- purchasing the art is very pricey - probably too pricey for the average person (me)- but fun to look at nonetheless. It's equally nice that it's right on the Alexandria/Potomac waterfront. Enjoy an ice cream, street performers and water views after your Torpedo Factory tour. You can even buy tickets for a water taxi tour. Immediately surrounding restaurants, i.e. The Chart House are on the upscale side, but you can also grab casual bites all up and down the surrounding blocks and enjoy specialty shops and a walking/biking trail depending what you are up for. Prepare to walk a little if you drive over- parking is usually tough on the weekends.
  • The Torpedo Factory is such a huge part of Alexandria's history that you just have to stop in to see it. Yes you will see a torpedo inside too! It is totally free to come in and the best part is they have a plenty of public bathrooms! The building opens up on the waterside and also street side so it can handle the heavy tourist traffic. There are 3 floors of galleries and working art studios here so you'll def find something that interests you even if you don't decide to purchase anything. They also got historical rooms with artifacts and readings about the area if you're into that sort of thing.
  • A nice and unique experience. There are numerous artists of various art forms and their works are for sale. I saw a few items that I liked but most were out of my current price range. I'll likely go back in a few months.
  • A former factory, now turned into an artist colony.. It is a great way to spend an afternoon. The art is displayed in front of each office and there is working space in the back. You can browse the work and ask questions to the artists...
