White Sands Missle Range Museum, Alamogordo

(4.4/5 based on 340 reviews on the web)
Follow the development of the United States' missile programs at White Sands Missle Range Museum, site of the first atomic bomb test and today home to a collection of historical missile models. Explore the museum's collection of indoor exhibits featuring missile motors, important technology, tools used in the construction process, and more. Don't miss the section detailing the many scientists and engineers who helped make these programs a reality. Afterward, head outside to view the extensive display of missiles once tested here. Keep in mind that the range is still an active military facility and you'll need a security pass to enter. This requires presenting your driver's license and, if coming by car, vehicle registration. • Unfriendly Staff and not open to German residents at the moment. Not the best experience.
  • 4+ years as a resident and a member of TRADOC Fond memories indeed. CW3 Medina. I sure miss you.
  • I was station at wsmr for 20 months. Loved every minute of it. Traveled all over Southwest , including Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma and Louisiana playing baseball, fast pitch softball and flag football. So much for serving in the US Army.I loved it so.
  • I visited here in March 2015 on my way to White Sands National Monument. I almost didn't go because I was later leaving Las Cruces than I intended. But I was so glad I did as I thought it was amazing. The military members serving on the base, who have to check you in, were so friendly - and I was very proud of them. I'm originally from England and have been an American Citizen for a long time. However, there is a separate building which houses one of the German bombs that were used to bomb England in World War 11, which brought tears to my eyes. I'm so grateful to the couple who realized I was from England and directed me to the building. - And if you go, don't overlook the museum - fascinating. Overall, well worth a visit.
  • Pretty depressing all around. Beautiful surrounding countryside and scenery, but missile range itself is desolute.
