  • So disappointed today. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and an engagement. I called about 5 weeks in advance and Afton was not flexible with scheduling our large group. I figured we could show up and break up into smaller groups since it was a slow, rainy day. Other smaller wineries were open to the idea and very welcoming. When we arrived, they seemed very upset that we were there. The front end lady said that they only tasted in groups of 6 and we said that was fine and we would break up into groups but they refused our service!!! I even asked if just 6 of us could taste and they said no. I can not believe a business would be so unaccommodating and unwelcoming. The craziest part is, there were only 4 customers at the tasting bar. Sorry Afton but you missed out on a fun, relaxing crowd that just wanted to come relax and spend money on wine. Your loss. We will not be returning.
  • My experience at Afton Mountain vineyard was so very disappointing in regards to Customer Service and the taste of the wines. We met a couple from New York, a couple from VA Beach and a couple from the Shenandoah Valley; we arrived in separate vehicles. Expecting to be greeted by a hostess that would explain their process as to how the tasting works, places to set and over all vineyard amenities. We were met with a very unpleasant “front lady” that immediately explained we could not be accommodated due to the size of our party. All we had in mind was to purchase some wine, set in an area to visit with friends. We did purchase wine – none to our liking. Most went down the drain at home; with great vineyards in the Valley we have no desire to drink pour quality wine in unfriendly atmosphere. We had just come from nearby vineyards; which were very accommodating, even though they also have certain rules and guidelines to adhere to. We will not return and I certainly will make sure I advise anyone asking about traveling to the Afton MT Vineyard; big thumbs down. And I would say we are at a vineyard or wine festival most weekends between Virginia and Pennsylvania.
  • The wines here are mostly dry, but I found one sweet white that I really enjoyed. The lady doing the tastings was very friendly. The views are beautiful from the patio. Thank you!
  • We went here as we were told at Veritas that Afton had Italian varietals. However, their wine is predominantly French. They have one Sangiovese blend that wasn't bad but had a subtle chemical aftertaste. I don't recall what the other varietals were in that blend. The paper list we got does not indicate. Fastest tasting ever. The guy was ready to pour the next wine before we had a chance to really taste a wine. I'd skip it, given the chance.
  • Jill, the owner was very friendly and really enjoyed sharing with us her knowledge about the wines and the process of their creation. Beautiful winery.
