The York Dungeon, York

4.3
Specialty Museum · Entertainment Center
Take a terrifying tour beneath the streets of one of England's oldest cities at The York Dungeon. After purchasing your ticket to the depths, a guard or rag-clad prisoner will lead you through a maze of torture devices and dank cells, where you may still find a poor soul awaiting his fate. Don't worry, it's all an act. In fact, you can choose your favorite period of England's dark history to explore: the great plague, ghost stories at the Golden Fleece Inn, the judgment of sinners, or the torture chamber. Professional actors pose as soothsayers, hangmen, jailers, and witch burners and lead you through the halls with a dose of humor and history. • Visited York Dungeon today although the actor's were brilliant we did think some of them went on a bit to long, and didn't find it really scary. We visited the dungeon many years ago and thought it was much better then. It seems to have gone down the commercial route of selling photos toys and souvenirs, We did enjoy the experience but sorry guys thought the old dungeon was better,
  • Took my 14yr old son there for the first time this week and he loved it. Even more so as I seemed to be 1 of the poor buggers who got regularly picked on by the cast. Speaking of which, the cast are superb and really bring an eerie feel to the whole experience. At first I thought it was a bit pricey but you can get special discounts online if you have a look and the whole cast make it a very worthwhile and pleasurable experience. I would recommend to anyone visiting York.
  • Really good tourist attraction, the actors are all incredible and the staff do a great job of making the whole experience worthwhile. Great place to take older kids, but not for those who are easily scared! If you're planning to go, we spent a good hour and a half there with not much of a queue but be wary of peak times. Enjoyed the experience but not something I would do again; once you've been you've seen it all. That said, if you're stuck in York for an afternoon it's worth swinging by.
  • The tour is great fun - you won't be grabbed or chased by anyone within the dungeon, so don't be overly nervous. The actors at each stage are accent and word perfect whilst confidently interacting with everyone in the group. You effortlessly learn a little of the history of York whilst smiling. It is well worth the money - I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed.
  • Really liked it, been to all of the other dungeon attractions in the UK so dispite this one being the closest to home it's the last one I visit. Happy to say it's a good solid experience and didn't let its self down. Good mix of experiences from the slightly scary to the funny. Thankfully I didn't get picked for any audience participation but its all done in good humour. The actors were really good, all in all well worth a visit.
