  • I wasn't sure what these were called, but they are very impressive as the four of them are well preserved and are part of the York walls. It is just amazing how well they look when you think how old t...  read more »
  • The Bars are the doors to the city and were built in stone, with a lookout tower well to the medieval style and the magnificent walls around. Everything is very well preserved and I recommend here start the tour of the city walls of York (there are stairs for easy access and from the Tower will have great views of the historic centre of the city).

  • Access to the walls at any of the four Bars (or gates). All are very well preserved and are ideal for photography.
  • Excellent bar and great photos with a lot of history, if that's what you like
  • Probably the more interesting historically of the two Bar museums Micklegate contains scale models of battles that Henry VII was involved in. There are also larger scale models of the main characters involved in the information about the main characters involved in the Wars of the Roses. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. A combined ticket with the King Richard III Experience at Monk Bar makes this definitely worth visiting combined with the (free) wall walk which will take you around half the city and provide you with good views of the cathedral.
  • Great museum, good value ticket for multiple places
  • I found the entrance (stairs leading upwards) by accident, best surprise from York. The walls are well preserved, I enjoyed the walk around the city.
  • Had a wonderful morning walking the wall 😀
