A popular time warp experience, Jorvik Viking Centre includes excavations that first revealed the ancient city of York, a settlement from the age of the Vikings. Over 40,000 artifacts were discovered at this location, which now offers tourists a chance to see 1,000-year-old houses and backyards right beneath their feet. The center also features lifelike animated Viking figures, based on skulls found in a Viking cemetery and modeled using advanced facial reconstruction technology. Take a tour of a recreated Viking settlement before moving on to the museum area, which combines an exhibit of some 800 finds from the archeological site with interactive displays and special talks by the "Viking" staff. A visit to Jorvik Viking Centre represents just the start of the adventure when you use our York trip planner to plot your vacation.

As archaeologist I recommend this place. I am admired about the quality of scientific work carry out by the center and the accuracy to explain at general public. Also the way to carry on the visitors to the Viking York very interactive. The explanations are very well documented and with the enough information, not to many not to less. A great experience even for archaeologists or general public. I strongly recommend.

We had a lovely time at the Jorvik centre exploring different aspects of Viking life. The ride was easy to grasp (particularly for me who prefers other more recent periods of history!) and very informative. The sensory experience created through a simulated scent, sounds, etc was great. Outside of the ride, there's lots of other bits to explore and the guides are all very helpful. I would definitely recommend!

The Jorvik Centre takes you through a brief history of vikings in York. Majority of the centre is a ride that takes you through the underground while a narrator explains the surroundings. After this is a small section with items that have been found around York, and then straight out to the gift shop. I may have gone in with too high of expectations, but unfortunately feel I didn't take much from the experience. It was nice to see at least once.

Fantastic experience. The 'ride' was much more fun than we'd anticipated and our party of 8 people ranging from age 9-51 all had a good time. Loads of viking hosts ready with fascinating and sometimes gross facts and figures!! The staff were very accommodating of my mobility issues and went out of their way to help. Excellent all round, plus we were given 12 month return visit stamps which we hope we can use! Definitely recommended!

A fantastic and very well run experience, with so much packed into such a small space. I was very impressed with how well it was run and how interesting and varied it was. The ride through a mock Viking village was definitely the highlight. If you can't make your booking, your tickets are valid for up to a year which is fantastic!
