Where to stay in York

Despite York’s relatively small size, accommodations come in a variety of styles. You can choose from privately owned townhouses, low-cost hotels, luxurious international chains, and quiet B&Bs and guesthouses. For that ultimate urban experience, consider staying in the historical city center. This part of town is packed with options for every taste and budget, all close to York’s main attractions, as well as its main transportation systems. Just a short walk from the city center, family-run guesthouses in quiet neighborhoods offer cozy rooms and modern amenities at a fraction of the cost of the big hotel chains. Alternatively, the surrounding countryside is filled with charming private homes eager to welcome guests.

  • The two gentlemen in the information centre are a delight. Such a good laugh
  • Fun little museum, however, this was much more geared towards kids. Maybe a reflection of York as a whole, but the Richard III experience was better 😜
  • Apparently the most important gate into York. Small museum in gate house. Better value if paired with Richard III Experience. Walk along walls is worthwhile.
  • Much less exhibits / information available compared with Richard III experience and other museums such as Jorvik. The location however is fabulous, as so much history is routed there.
