  • The Castle is really more of a stately home, if you're looking for something medieval, forget about it. It's quite a small stately home, but it's been nicely maintained/restored as you'd expect from the National Trust. The grounds also contain a small private church/chapel which is nice to have a quick look around. We've been here a couple of times and never managed to walk around the extensive park land, but this looks like it should offer a good long walk. There is an onsite eatery, which offers some decent hot food and drinks as well as a good selection of home made cakes and some of the best pre-packaged sandwiches (made fresh daily on site) I've ever had. Plenty of parking and knowledgeable staff/volunteers dotted around to answer any questions about the property and it's previous inhabitants.
  • Fantastic walks filled with wildlife. The walk through the forest and alongside the old water pools and pump house are great and make the trip worthwhile. The house is shaped like a castle and has a lot of history. It's a typical national trust house inside but worth seeing. The walled garden was nice in the bright sunshine and very relaxing. Take a seat in a deck chair and chill for a while. The view from the house towards the pond is also really nice. Cafe has plenty of seating and sandwiches can be made to order. Try the hedgehog society ale if you like IPA's as its lovely. Big thumbs up.
  • Lovely day out, well staffed, the building aren't the main attraction, there are so many walks and the views are impressive. There is plenty of parking and the toilets are kept clean. The cafe was very full, however this may have been down to the rain. Well worth a visit, take your walking boots.
  • Excellent day out. Beautiful house to wander around. Brilliant out door activities. Natural play area for children. Wooden fortress. The usual "excellent" tea rooms and second hand book shop.
  • Nice house and large open grounds. Very child friendly, so our 11 month old was happy to crawl around the house. Sadly though, I had probably the worst coffee I've ever had (otherwise it would have got 5*). Also, the cakes are self service, so if you arrive late expect not much more than crumbs.
