Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, Worthing

Categories: Art Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web
Founded in 1908 the Museum and Lbrary building was funded by generous donations from the first Mayor of Worthing Alfred Cortis and American Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie who intended it to provide an educational heart for the town ( and so the first Curator Mrs Marion Frost would stop nagging him for the money).

Permanent displays include a nationally important costume collection alongside toys & childhood galleries, archaeology, geology, the natural, social and domestic history of the town and West Sussex.

The art galleries and sculpture garden offer a range of exhibitions including displays of the permanent collections of fine and decorative art, alongside changing work by celebrated contemporary artists where artworks are offered for sale, and exhibitions by community artists. The gallery team also care for artwork on display at other council properties and advise on public art projects in the area.
