Winchester Castle - The Great Hall, Winchester
(4.3/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Founded in 1067, Winchester Castle - The Great Hall remains a testament to almost a millennia of history. The castle houses one of the finest surviving medieval halls, where a replica of King Arthur's famous round table sits. King Henry III--born in the castle--added the great hall between 1222 and 1235, which stands as the only remaining interior part of the castle after Oliver Cromwell's destruction. Take advantage of the exhibition corridor behind the gift shop to learn more of the history of the castle. Stroll around Queen Eleanor's garden featuring plants with symbolic meaning in medieval times. The castle is accessible by train at Winchester station, a ten-minute walk, or by the Tower Street car park, a five-minute walk. Admission is free, but the castle trust gladly accepts donations on entry. • The first week of November I spent 4 days in Winchester and I was able to visit its most famous places, such as the splendid cathedral and the remains of his legendary Castle of the Knights of the round table. But what he liked was make beautiful walks along the pedestrian streets that line the Creek (water courses) through the village and parks covered in red/orange leaves just dropped by majestic trees. And what about the beautiful nature reserve within walking distance from the Centre of the Centre

  • Amazing space containing the spectacular round table dating back to the 13th century. Make sure you spend time in the pretty Queen's garden.
  • A beautiful building with a very interesting history that goes beyond the round table that it's perhaps best most known for. Give it a visit!
  • Nice site to visit if you travel with kids. Free entrance and the chance to dress up to make a picture under the fable table.
  • A massive hall with the so called "King Arthur's Round Table" hanging on the wall. Some interesting historical information.
  • An interesting look into some of the history of Winchester.
