Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Marwell Zoo offers you the opportunity to see wildlife up close and help save endangered species at the same time. In the 57 hectares (140 acres) of exhibits, view over 1,200 animals across 235 different species. Snow leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, gazelles, crocodiles, lemurs, and many more make their homes in enclosures that recreate their natural habitats. Follow one of the woodland trails to see small, local animals in the wild, and sit in on an expert talk about one of the zoo's species. The proceeds from your visit--including admission tickets that you can purchase online--support the zoo's conservation efforts in the UK and abroad. • We decided to visit on the way home from a weekend away. Having been once before we knew roughly what was there, however we still had a brilliant time. We decided we would buy annual passes as well si...  more »
  • It really pains me to have to write a negative review of Marwell, having been an avid supporter and visitor for many years. I have to agree with other reviewers who have noted that the zoo appears tir...  more »
  • Lovely zoo with friendly staff, animals all look well cared for. We phoned in advance to ask if this was suitable for wheelchair users and to be honest, it is not as suitable as we were led to believe...  more »

  • We had a great experience here, we were among the first people threw the doors and were able to see the staff interacting with the animals which was great to see. All the animals were very active and happy. We were slightly disappointed by some of the little shops that are dotted around were closed but that didn't take anything away from the day. Really lovely grounds and amazing animals.
  • Probably the best zoo I have ever been to. A great selection of animals that you can get really close to. All of the enclosures are spacious and the animals look happy, healthy and well looked after. The cafe we went to had a nice selection of food and was reasonably priced. Overall a great day out for the family. Highly recommended and Will definitely be going back.
  • Fantastic value. Great day out for young and old. Wheelchair accessible. And you can borrow. Limited though I would of thought. We ended up getting yearly pass for me and the children. Well worth a visit.
  • Great day out for the whole family. They have put a lot of money into creating great viewing platforms and walkways. I really enjoyed the aviary where you could walk through and spot all the different birds. Really worth a visit.
  • Love it here! I've had an annual pass for a few years now and always enjoy trips here. Best to go on non-peak days or times as the animals seem to come out more when it's quieter

Where to stay in Winchester

Hotels, B&Bs, and inns offer rooms on the upper floors of the historical town center's Victorian, Georgian, and Tudor buildings. These look out over the pedestrian streets, markets, and shops, as well as provide a convenient location to the main attractions. Cottages for rent near the River Itchen are set among thick trees near the water, but are still within walking distance of many of the city attractions.
