Probably the most grim, dirty, depressing place you can go. Toilets the most disgusting I've seen in years, no one wipes tables clean in cafe. Freezing cold in cafe and very limited view for spectator...  more »

We enjoyed the experience but the ice was a lot more slippery than the rink in town which made it harder for us to skate. The drinks were nice. We had to search repeatedly for the person who was meant...  more »

We had a good couple of hours fun skating here today. Skates and ice both seemed good to us. The building is old and run down but it didn't spoil our time here.  more »
  • Great fun, ended up signing up to the weekly ice skating lessons which are good value. Plenty of parking space and good prices. Skate hire is an extra few pounds or bring your own.
  • The rink has a dangerously large dip around the outside which leads to falls. There is also an absurd amount of snow on the rink that leads to people slipping and sliding and falling over. There's music at least. The rental ice skates are in terrible condition, some have Brown rust on them as well as scratches all over (scratches are to be expected of course.) They're also pretty dull. The man who gave us and my little cousins our rental ice skates was very unenthusiastic, the young boy who then gave us our ice skates a second time was far more enthusiastic. If you've brought bags with you, you'll have to leave them by the spectator seats and hope no one will take them. Overall I'd say try somewhere else, even the temporary Newcastle and Sunderland ice skating rinks are far better with higher quality skates, despite the rink being smaller in size. Whitley Bay Ice Rink? More like 'Stay away from this ice rink'.
  • I go there quite often. There's a dip at the edge of the rink but if you don't hug the sides then it's not a problem. The ice itself it in alright condition it's resprayed after every session and the snow is often a result of a lot of skaters. It's very busy at weekends and the rental boots arn't amazing. If you want to go skating often it's a good idea to buy your own skates. It's a perfect thing to do as it's fun and relitivly cheap with recent music and 2 whole hours of skating, although it's shortened a bit buy the long queues, and a food stall inside. I would recomend this rink to anyone who wants to get a feel for skating.
  • Could do with a revamp, it's still the same as it was 20 or more years ago! Apart from the damp, dingy building, the ice does the job it needs to. The hire boots could be replaced too. Kids enjoyed so suppose that's the main thing!
  • Learnt to skate there. The food isnt great, but its pretty good icerink
