Nothe Fort, Weymouth

(4.6/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Once an important stronghold in World War II, Nothe Fort remains one of the most well-preserved forts in England. Spread over three levels, the museum houses standing exhibitions of Weymouth’s naval history and of World War II. Wander to the top level and out to the surrounding gardens for views of Portland Harbor and the Jurassic Coast. Parking is available, although the fort is only a 15-minute walk from the town center. Take a rowboat from the harbor to the fort for a chance to explore the nearby beaches and enjoy views from the water. A visit to Nothe Fort represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Weymouth trip itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • We never get to go here. Last year we visited Weymouth. Web said fort was open. Got there to find it closed. This year web said closed but turned out it was open. We'd already decided to go to Portland Castle. Much better as was actually open when it said it was.
  • What a great afternoon! We came here due to some poor weather on our holiday and had a great time. At first I was a bit concerned that there wasn't much to see but you could get lost in all the different rooms with displays and scenes from the war. They have a 'homemade' feel about them, even putting some old action men figures to use, but it was all quite charming. It would be a great place to take children who I am sure would find it all really exciting, especially the ghost corridor! I would definitely return in the future.
  • An extremely interesting place to visit. Impressive fortification offering amazing views. Long subterranean passages off of which countless rooms with varied wartime exhibits, large and small, Something for everyone, even the younger. Some nice touches such as a small wartime kitchen garden, created in times of food shortage, wherever the smallest patch of soil existed.( no livestock however). Should I ever be in the area of Weymouth again I would most certainly visit Nothe Castle
  • Just spent three hours exploring here, it's like a rabbit Warren with every room filled with something interesting, we would definitely recommend it to anyone
