Nothe Fort, Weymouth

4.6
#1 of 6 in Historic Sites in Weymouth
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Once an important stronghold in World War II, Nothe Fort remains one of the most well-preserved forts in England. Spread over three levels, the museum houses standing exhibitions of Weymouth’s naval history and of World War II. Wander to the top level and out to the surrounding gardens for views of Portland Harbor and the Jurassic Coast. Parking is available, although the fort is only a 15-minute walk from the town center. Take a rowboat from the harbor to the fort for a chance to explore the nearby beaches and enjoy views from the water. A visit to Nothe Fort represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Weymouth trip itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • Spent two hours here and the time flew by. I will be back because I could not spend as much time as I would have liked. The children, 2 and 6, enjoyed exploring the fort and seeing the guns. Gift aid your entry fee and get free entry for a year.
  • Interesting place to visit. Some of the exhibits seem dated but they're informative and give you a sense of how the fort was built and used at various times. Good views out to sea from the gun positions and a whole warren of tunnels to explore, where most of the displays are.
  • Lots to see and do, good for all age ranges and has wheelchair access! and they do food! Good for military history even the girls loved it!
  • Lovely old building with great history and fantastic views. Plus all you can eat flapjacks!
  • Decent price, LOTS to look at, good push chair access on all levels, very friendly staff, good food, great few hours.
