Ancient castle walls towering over world-renowned gardens set the stage for a visit to Powis Castle and Garden. In addition to a vast collection of artifacts from India housed in the Clive Museum, the estate highlights cultivated, formal gardens influenced by Italian and French styles. A wooded ridge just opposite the castle hides sculpture among the great oaks and rhododendrons. The grounds offer organized treasure hunts for children and croquet on the games lawn for adults. You’re welcome to explore the medieval deer park, however, any pets must be left at home. To visit Powis Castle and Garden on your trip to Welshpool, use our Welshpool day trip planning site.

  • A lovely fortified Home with breathtaking views across the valley and stunning gardens. Lots of room for the little ones to run about and tire themselves out after a walk around the house. The Fallow and Red deer in the grounds will keep both young and old amused too.
  • Just stunning, on the drive to the castle there is no sign as to what you will see from the roadside, after a long drive through the deer park (we didn't see any deer) you come to a large grass/gravel car park area. This area also has 2 electric vehicle hook up points. After a short walk, you gently climb towards the castle. The castle is a stunning red sand stone structure. Once inside there are a number of areas, rooms to explore. At the moment there are a number of displays about the castles use as a school during war time (very fascinating). Once you have done with the inside, the grounds lay ahead and they are magnificent, with many different styles to explore, from formal gardens, to large flower boarders, to cool wooded areas. Refreshments, as this is a national Trust it is as expected £2.00 for a pot of tea, cake is around £2.50 a slice. However if you are a fan of fizzy drinks I would bring your own, with a can of coke setting you back £2.40 (£2.20 for diet coke). Large garden shop, small second hand book shop, small national trust shop. Toilets are available at main castle and also down in the formal garden area.
  • Lovely castle to visit and explore with the kids. There's plenty of space for them to run and kick a ball about. There's an amazing tour through the castle with speakers in each room to help set the scene. If anyone is interested in photography this is a great place to go with beautiful views and gardens! Food and drinks are available, plus a gift shop.
  • Amazing decoration. Especially the ceilings. Outside large garden giving impressive views of the house. Lucky enough to watch the gardeners trimming the hedges, using scaffold, tracked access lift and string!
  • Beautiful grounds and lovely walks through the estate. Very impressive castle house with some interesting history and museum pieces. Nice cafe and good food. The National Trust workers/guides were very helpful and friendly but the guy in the museum was a bit of a grump around the kids. The only downside is we were told there is no photography allowed in the main house tour. The main house tour, in my opinion is a big selling point to draw people in and the national trust should be shouting about this not hiding it.
