Garden Castle
Ancient castle walls towering over world-renowned gardens set the stage for a visit to Powis Castle and Garden. In addition to a vast collection of artifacts from India housed in the Clive Museum, the estate highlights cultivated, formal gardens influenced by Italian and French styles. A wooded ridge just opposite the castle hides sculpture among the great oaks and rhododendrons. The grounds offer organized treasure hunts for children and croquet on the games lawn for adults. You’re welcome to explore the medieval deer park, however, any pets must be left at home. Our Welshpool vacation route planner makes visiting Powis Castle and Garden and other Welshpool attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • One word... WOW. Powis Castle is simply breathtaking. We had a brilliant visit here. The inside of the castle is stunning but sadly you can't take photos, not that they would do justice. The gardens are brilliant very well kept and there is a large field ideal for families with young children who could play. An absolute must visit!!
  • Beautiful place to visit and so much to see, the gardens and statues are incredible. Lovely food in the cafe, make sure you get there early. Might be worth looking up what events they have coming up as well as they can be a lot of fun.
  • Always something new to discover in the characterful gardens. Great restaurant and nice tea room in the gardens. I'd recommend staying in the bothy for a short break as a treat.
  • The gardens are always immaculate all year round. Staff are friendly and informative. Inside the castle is largely in tact with period furnishings and paintings. Great place to have a picnic. Only reason I did not give 5 stars was the annoying drones people were using in the gardens. National trust should ban drone usage on their properties.
  • This is such a lovely NT Castle with fabulous grounds, just cannot believe they do not allow dogs! I have been a member of the NT for years and it is just ridiculous to not allow dogs here. It says it is because of the deer park, but there are other properties that have deer parks attached that allow dogs (Attingham, for one). Not good enough, especially as many people who join the NT have dogs and are responsible with them.
