Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the-Sea

4.4
#2 of 17 in Things to do in Wells-next-the-Sea
Located adjacent to the quaint village of Holkham, Holkham Hall remains as a fine example of an 18th-century, Palladian-styled country house. Each room contains a number of treasures to discover, in fact, the privately-owned collection of books, paintings, and furniture is still a source for academic research. Visit the Bygones museum to view an extensive collection of antique toys and agricultural memorabilia complementing the grandeur of the house, and learn about rural life in the past. Stroll the meticulously maintained walled-gardens and take a rest in the Stables Cafe. The house is still privately owned, so plan ahead for your visit as the museum closes over winter. • The walled garden is fantastic, beehive! Bought 2 jars of honey from the shop. Love the cafe & shop. The shop had amazing things to buy, very unique. Cafe had really nice food..be back for more. Amazing wildlife to see on your walks. Be back for the Hall tour on Thursday.
  • My happy place. Park Run on a Saturday morning is so friendly and scenery out of this world (parking is also free for park run). Then a nice cup of coffee for me and a 3 sausage baguette for my son, in the Courtyard Cafe. Perfect!
  • Holkham hall Halloween experience. Was fantastic.I spent a enjoyable Sunday 29 October there.the walled garden.the games.were great for the children. The staff in costume was fun for the children.in the hall where there was a murder mystery which the children found great fun.at the end in the kitchen where they made a cake topped off the visit wonderfully.also had a lovely lunch.the food was wonderful.and the staff were helpful.they were very busy.our afternoon was in the farm to fork .which was very interesting.a big thankyou to all the staff for making our visit enjoyable.
  • Plenty of things to do for old and young. Cycling around the estate with a hired bike is my favourite so far. Loads of events are on over summer too. We haven't yet managed to participate in one but I'm convinced that's done in proper manner too.
  • Enjoyed a nice sunny day here. The cafe serves a good variety of tasty food, with options that you don't normally get elsewhere. They have kids meal deals too, which worked well for us. However it was a bit confusing what you got from where at five because there are various sections to get food from. The play area is really good. It's mostly wooden and on different levels. Suitable for a range of ages, with smaller swings and a sandpit for younger ones and various bits to climb and swing on for older ones. Enjoyed wandering round some of the grounds too.
