Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the-Sea

4.5
#2 of 14 in Things to do in Wells-next-the-Sea
Historic Site Landmark
Located adjacent to the quaint village of Holkham, Holkham Hall remains as a fine example of an 18th-century, Palladian-styled country house. Each room contains a number of treasures to discover, in fact, the privately-owned collection of books, paintings, and furniture is still a source for academic research. Visit the Bygones museum to view an extensive collection of antique toys and agricultural memorabilia complementing the grandeur of the house, and learn about rural life in the past. Stroll the meticulously maintained walled-gardens and take a rest in the Stables Cafe. The house is still privately owned, so plan ahead for your visit as the museum closes over winter. • Wonderful place to visit. Walking, cycling. Simple but great foods from farm to plate. Beautiful hall to visit. For the charge of the parking fee £3 you can walk in the park have a picnic. Great place for big and small.
  • The house is definitely worth a visit and the staff are very helpful & informative. You can walk round the grounds or hire bikes. Also has great cafe and shop. If you are an HHA member you get free parking and entrance to the house.
  • Lovely grounds to wander around with the dog. If you park in the"village car park", you can have a free day out if you don't want to go in the house. Nice café too.
  • A fantastic place to visit well up there with other great halls of the period, one of the best in my humble opinion.
  • The family have really invested into making this a must visit destination on the north Norfolk coast. We went last year for their Halloween festivities and it was a great day out. Lots of activities and games on the walled garden including meet the wild animals (snakes, monitor lizards etc). There's a new educational exhibit about farming which is fun and both informative and interactive. Very well executed to ensure kids enjoy it and learn at the same time. The new courtyard cafe and shop is also outstanding and well Staffed so even when busy there were tables in and outside and short waits to pay. Would highly recommend.
