Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the-Sea

(4.5/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Located adjacent to the quaint village of Holkham, Holkham Hall remains as a fine example of an 18th-century, Palladian-styled country house. Each room contains a number of treasures to discover, in fact, the privately-owned collection of books, paintings, and furniture is still a source for academic research. Visit the Bygones museum to view an extensive collection of antique toys and agricultural memorabilia complementing the grandeur of the house, and learn about rural life in the past. Stroll the meticulously maintained walled-gardens and take a rest in the Stables Cafe. The house is still privately owned, so plan ahead for your visit as the museum closes over winter. • The family have really invested into making this a must visit destination on the north Norfolk coast. We went last year for their Halloween festivities and it was a great day out. Lots of activities and games on the walled garden including meet the wild animals (snakes, monitor lizards etc). There's a new educational exhibit about farming which is fun and both informative and interactive. Very well executed to ensure kids enjoy it and learn at the same time. The new courtyard cafe and shop is also outstanding and well Staffed so even when busy there were tables in and outside and short waits to pay. Would highly recommend.
  • Only £3 to park the car in glorious parkland, with an impressive herd of deer roaming freely. The playground in the woods was a big hit with the grandchildren, the cafe was good value and quick service. The walk around the lake is a lovely thing to do.
  • Fabulous day with lots to do and see. The play area is a great start for the kids and then we did the farm to folk tour before heading into the very well presented house. Each of the main rooms had a member of staff ready to answer any questions we may of had and even offered information we didn't think to ask. I was a bit disappointed to see the Bee Hive had gone form the walled garden. The children loved the wild life and the flowers. Thanks for a great day out.
  • A good place for everyone. There is a vast park around the Hall and inside the buildings there is a mixture of history, quality food and entertainment. You get offered the best service,
  • A fantastically priced day out! We decided to go to Holkham as it was a beautiful day, we saw so many gorgeous deer in the grounds - just magical. Really gorgeous grounds and a fab little gift shop. Then a boat ride in a kayak for an hour around the boating Lake to finish it all off. So much fun and the staff were just so helpful!
