  • Make sure you check the opening times before you make the drive out! Being there for live ammo target practice would put a damper on your day... An idyllic village, stuck in time from when it was evacuated in the second world war. Although most of the houses are in ruins, the schoolhouse, church, and farmhouse are like beautiful snapshots of rural life. Paths are relatively well kept but not wheelchair suitable and would be a little tricky if you're unsteady on your feet. Maps, leaflets and postcards can be bought from the church in an honesty box scheme. There is little in the way of facilities (though there is a toilet at the farmhouse) so pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful woods and birdsong.
  • The beach, a short walk from the village, is beautiful. Take a picnic and take in the views. A great place to loose yourself for the day.
  • TBH this aint my kind of thing. Not really resembling what I would think of as a village more a small community (as was). Church well preserved the rest has been left to the mercy of the elements. The history of the place is more interesting than the remains (for me). Lots of people like this stuff so If you like looking through old remains of a few houses go for it.
  • Fascinating abandoned village frozen in time since 1943, nice school and church mini exhibitions, info on each building of it's history, worth a walk down to the beautiful cove (complete with concrete Dragon teeth for more WW2 interest), a suggested car park charge of £2 is very fair
  • Tyneham has been well maintained and as you walk around the village you easily get a sense of what it used to be like. Good side car park, no cafe but plenty of places for a picnic.
