Been meaning to visit Lawrence of Arabia's very small cottage (only 4 rooms) for some time while staying in Dorset. Managed to get there this year. Well worth the visit and the relatively small price ... read more »
It has always been my desire to visit Clouds Hill ever since I began an interest for T E Lawrence and was not dissapointed when finally getting there. Reading about the simplicity of Clouds Hill and t... read more »
As National Trust properties go, this is small - but I'd say perfectly formed. The room guides are excellent and knowledgeable, and can discuss every minor detail at some length. The cottage has a wonderful atmosphere, surrounded by wild hills and paths to explore. I imagine the road was slightly quieter when Lawrence lived here! I'd say it isn't a place for young children here, as the cottage is cramped and the surrounding paths are steep. The garage has been concerned to a small honesty box style café, with a decent selection of drinks and cakes. It's unpretentious and simple, which is I suspect is just what Lawrence would have wanted.
If you are in any way interested in T E Lawrence then a visit to his home is a must. Fascinating place full of his humble possessions and a fantastic insight into how he lived towards the end of his life.
What a fascinating insight into the day-to-day life of T. E. Lawrence. There aren't many signs indicating the direction to Clouds Hill, so make sure you know the way before you set off. Being such a small property, it's quite hard to miss anything. There are four rooms: a library, music room, bunk room and a bathroom.; in each, be sure to read the extensive hard-backed pamphlets. Out back, in the shed that housed his motorbikes, there is a mini exhibition of his life. Don't miss it.
What an interesting place. It is so beautiful, I would move in tomorrow if I could. The guides were so knowledgeable and graceful. Be aware it is a very small place and suited TEL well as he was only 5'5". A wonderful experience. Thankyou NT.
Beautiful. Just what Lawrence wanted. Location & privacy.
