  • We visited this place while on holiday just a short drive away from where we stayed. We had always thought about joining the n.t so we did so on our visit. My favourite film is Lawrence of Arabia so i...  more »

  • Lovely place and really not what you expect. Very understated but the very knowledgable guides are great and very happy to tell you everything they can. For fans of T E Lawrence this is a must.  more »

  • Fabulous National Trust Property with great room stewards. Get your kids to look out for the port hole and ships bunk in the silver foil bedroom (lined for the damp). Best done as part of the Lawrence Trail (Dorset.gov.uk)
  • Interesting to see Lawrence 's den and read about his life there. Good selection of photos inside. Enormous bed covered in cow hide where he slept in a sleeping bag. One really gets the full atmosphere. Wonderful.
  • Didn't take long to go around but very interesting. The knowledgeable staff were great and really made the visit enjoyable.
  • I love reading about Lawrence and his exploits and so enjoyed visiting this little property, located very close to the tank proving grounds used by the military. The interior is similar to how it was when Lawrence lived here, and there are lots of his books here. Well worth the visit.
  • As National Trust properties go, this is small - but I'd say perfectly formed. The room guides are excellent and knowledgeable, and can discuss every minor detail at some length. The cottage has a wonderful atmosphere, surrounded by wild hills and paths to explore. I imagine the road was slightly quieter when Lawrence lived here! I'd say it isn't a place for young children here, as the cottage is cramped and the surrounding paths are steep. The garage has been concerned to a small honesty box style café, with a decent selection of drinks and cakes. It's unpretentious and simple, which is I suspect is just what Lawrence would have wanted.
