  • Just a bit odd. The cake was good. The young waiter and waitresses were nice but the atmosphere was severely lacking and we wanted to leave quite quickly. We asked if we could take away a piece of cake as it was my mums birthday and we were on the way to visiting her but it was seriously out of the question. Like we had asked for one of their children. The staff looked awkward and terrified to ask the owner. I asked if we were not able to buy any cake there could they recommend a local bakery that I could buy some cake for my mums birthday. The only one that would know was the owner and they were too uncomfortable to ask. How bizarre. We felt a bit weird and awkward and was glad to go. The whole atmosphere was a bit serious and maybe could have done with some soft music or something to take the edge off. Also a sign saying under no circumstances can you take cake away so don't ask!! I wouldn't go back I'm afraid.
  • 17th September 15 - Got bored on the A1 travelling north to Harrogate, went on the old Great North Road and stumbled across Tuxford Windmill. Wanted a stop but didn't want to use the usual services. At the windmill had coffee and homemade cake which was very nice, very reasonably priced. Staff and owners were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stop here again if travelling on the AI. Good halfway point also if going to north Yorkshire from Essex. Didn't have a look round the mill due to time schedule but it would be good
  • Fantastic cream tea
