Truro Cathedral, Truro

4.5
Never failing to inspire awe, Truro Cathedral soars above the surrounding rooftops and dominates the city skyline. Built between 1880 and 1910, the cathedral was designed in the Gothic Revival style, which was fashionable during much of the 19th century. The site is noted for being one of only three cathedrals in the United Kingdom with three spires. Located in the middle of the city and surrounded by numerous shops and restaurants, the cathedral offers informative guided tours on a daily basis. Begin or end your educational visit at the on-site coffee shop, where you can enjoy a hot cup of tea and a light snack. Be sure to pick up a souvenir of your trip at the cathedral’s popular gift shop. • It was a very interesting visit to a Cathedral that in comparison with others is "new". The grandeur and history of some of the older Cathedrals was missing, although, that said there were many other ...  more »
  • Good welcome and excellent music (choir and organ) at today's Palm Sunday service including very well-behaved donkey leading the traditional procession.  more »
  • A beautiful building right in the centre of Truro. Impressive exterior and even more impressive inside. A quiet oasis in the centre of the town. Loved the meditation time with the organ quietly playin...  more »

  • Beautiful looking Cathedral in the heart of the city that was unfortunately having construction work done when I visited creating so much noise, nevertheless the architectural aspect is breathtaking, you can clearly see that so much work has gone into designing & building this work of art. Admission is completely free with donations gratefully appreciated such as lighting a candle for a loved one £1 is suggested, they also have a homeless project going on in there at present to get people off living on the street, so things did prevent me from absorbing myself in such history, although I found there wasn't so much displayed like other Cathedrals I have visited previously, plus, as this is the 1st time I have visited Truro, I sadly left there feeling like I never really learnt enough history about this beautiful Cathedral, nor it's surrounding areas. Also has a cafe and gift shop inside where maybe I should of looked more observantly at finding a book that tells me much more at a charge, as the leaflets left for people to pick up were NOT relevant to the knowledge I so much wanted to learn, maybe the tourist information centre would of helped if I'd of come across it.
  • A detour from shopping to walk round the tranquil and leafy paths and grounds of Truro cathedral. Built between 1880 and 1910 to Gothic Revival design by John Loughborough Pearson on the site of the parish church of St Mary. It is one of only three cathedrals in England with three spires.
  • Love Truro. Charming and lively little city with lots of character and shops. Went into Waterstones and browsed the books while drinking a coffee from the Costa coffee shop inside. I would suggest this place is well worth a visit , as I say plenty of shops & eateries here ! . Didn't actually visit the Cathedral but looked stunning from the outside, and took a few photos
  • This is a fantastic location. Truro only became a Cathedral at the end of the 19th century when Queen Victoria appointed a Bishop for Cornwall. It is an amazing, structure built onto the parish church of St Mary. The rheredos behind the altar is impressive with scenes depicting Elijah's struggle and Christ's ministry. The nave is lofty although slightly out of line with the sanctuary according to my son.
  • Nice cathedral and would like to rate higher especially as it doesn't cost to get in... From the outside its an impresive building although in a somewhat unimpresive surroundings (sandwiched between buildings / shops etc). The inside was nice and whilst I really enjoyed seeing the quire and stained glass there wasnt much else and we whizzed round fairly quickly. Would suggest popping in if you are in area but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way.
