Jersey Zoo, Trinity

4.5
#1 of 46 in Outdoors in Jersey
See over 100 species of animals at Jersey Zoo, a conservation center with a focus on rare and endangered creatures. The zoo's 13 hectares (32 acres) feature landscaped parkland, water gardens, and native habitat areas in a more natural setting than many zoos offer. Stroll through exhibits dedicated to Asian birds, rain forest creatures, reptiles and amphibians, gorillas, orangutans, lemurs, and more. Add an animal encounter to your visit to spend 30 minutes with an animal of your choice in an area that other visitors can't access. Or, sign up as "keeper for a day" to assist a zookeeper for an entire working day. Make sure you book these special experiences in advance, because they fill up quickly. If you want to spend more time in the environs, camp for the night in one of the zoo's well-appointed glamping pods. • There is always something new or exciting to see. Although it is quite costly to enter, it's worth it. It is such a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Last time - the animals were on holiday, I ...  more »

  • An absolutely fantastic zoo and wonderful experience. Unlike some other zoos, the animals seem genuinely content and not frustrated. It does excellent conservation work which you can find out all about at the zoo. I highly recommend going to all of the keeper talks throughout the day (the first is at 11:30am) - they are a super interesting insight into some of the daily goings on of the zoo, as well as bigger picture stuff about conservation. This is an absolute must if you are in Jersey for any amount of time.
  • There is a bus direct to the zoo from St Helier bus station. Some buses take twice as long so look out for which bus is coming. I'd rather call this a conservation park than a zoo. It's a relatively small size. You can see everything and grab something to eat in about 4 hours. They have various keeper talks throughout the day. We saw the gorilla talk which was very interesting. Who knew gorillas don't like asparagus? You can tell the staff are passionate about conservation. There's a lot of unusual or lesser kept animals. They have fantastic habitats to live in. The orangutans were an amusing group to watch. The cafe at the entrance was amazing. The food tasted great and there was a good selection. They also had vegetarian and vegan deserts. Definitely recommend a visit!
  • Thoughtfully designed and informative day out for anyone with an interest in wildlife conservation. The grounds are pleasant to stroll in, and the cafe serves good food and remarkably large scones. It can become an expensive trip if you're in a group, but you can easily spend the full day here, making the most of the keepers talks. Lovely flock of flamingos. One quibble...if there's a commitment to environment and reducing use of plastic, please don't stock the gift shop with cheap plastic toys that get children into the habit of buying (often plastic) things they don't need, which soon end up in the bin.
  • Lovely clean place, lots of animals to see. The lady in the bat cave told us all about the bats which was very interesting. It's a big place and a lot of walking. Very good for children to run around. Lovely picnic areas dotted around the zoo. Toilets are far apart not enough on there but they are clean.
  • I'm not usually one for zoos, but this one felt different. The animals looked well cared for and only one (a bear) was stereotyping. Big enclosures for all and great viewing places for the public. The quietness of the venue was very relaxing. Food was reasonably priced and of excellent quality. Portion sizes were very good, so do make sure you're hungry. If I had any advice it would be arrive early, not because it's crowded, but because it feels like there's just you in the park.
