Trentham Gardens, Trentham

4.4
#1 of 36 in Parks in Staffordshire
A major restoration project gives Trentham Gardens the feeling of England's golden years. The Italianate garden's sculpted bushes, grasses, and flowers make angles along walking trails over an expansive patch of land. Take a walk through the gardens toward the woodlands, where over 140 Barbary macaques watch you from the trees. You won't find fences or pens keeping the monkeys away from the visitors, but wardens are on the watch to ensure your safety. Very little of Trentham Hall still stands, having been razed by its owner, the 4th Duke of Sutherland, in 1912 after the nearby town turned down his offer of the estate. However, on a ride in the Giant Observation Wheel, which gives you a bird's-eye view, you'll see the outline of the former hall. You'll also see the Trentham Ballroom where huge acts, including Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, took the stage in the 1970s. • Lovely place for all the family. Had a walk around the gardens and enjoyed a lovely cuppa in one of the little cafes on the estate. At one point the path goes close to the boundary fence with Trentham Monkey Forest so if you are lucky you'll even see a couple of monkeys jumping around too.
  • Always a lovely place to visit whatever day you go. Good range of outlets. Another 26 shops coming later this year.
  • Had lunch here today at the pieminister chicken and mushroom mashed potatoes and peas and gravy very yummy if your visiting trentham gardens I can recommend this place
  • It's always good at Trentham, they are repairing the path on one side of the lake but still good for a nice walk and then a coffee 🤗
  • Great place to walk. Would prefer more trees less flowers but all good.
