Trentham Gardens, Trentham
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
A major restoration project gives Trentham Gardens the feeling of England's golden years. The Italianate garden's sculpted bushes, grasses, and flowers make angles along walking trails over an expansive patch of land. Take a walk through the gardens toward the woodlands, where over 140 Barbary macaques watch you from the trees. You won't find fences or pens keeping the monkeys away from the visitors, but wardens are on the watch to ensure your safety. Very little of Trentham Hall still stands, having been razed by its owner, the 4th Duke of Sutherland, in 1912 after the nearby town turned down his offer of the estate. However, on a ride in the Giant Observation Wheel, which gives you a bird's-eye view, you'll see the outline of the former hall. You'll also see the Trentham Ballroom where huge acts, including Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, took the stage in the 1970s. Using our online itinerary creator, Stoke-on-Trent attractions like Trentham Gardens can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
