The Needles, Totland

3.0
#5 of 32 in Parks in Isle of Wight
Geologic Formation Nature / Park
Experience one of England’s oldest natural wonders, three chalk stacks rising out of the ocean, known as The Needles. Located off the coast of the Isle of Wight, the formations are within sight of a turn-of-the-century lighthouse, and can be enjoyed from the nearby Needles Pleasure Park. Situated overlooking the famous landmark, the park offers an assortment of shops and a small amusement park. Catch a ride on the chairlift down to Alum Bay for dramatic sunset views of the coastline. Take a scenic boat trip from the bay for a closer look at the formations and the cliffside landscape. A visit to The Needles represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Totland itinerary maker to plot your vacation.

  • Came here to have boat trip to The Needles but seas very rough with high waves and boats cancelled. Still worth the trip down the chair lift tho'. Been here a few times and every time its different. M...  more »

  • Piece of land at the end of Isle-of-wight. Catch a boat to see a lighthouse and a few rocks then catch a seat lift. Nothing spectacular around the centre. Do it all in a couple of hours.  more »

  • A mixed experience but the highs are worthwhile. A real mixed bag, queuing for the car park on a hill isn't great, thankfully we have an automatic but the smell of burnt clutches fills the air! Joking aside There are some great things here, primarily the glass blowing demonstration and the sweet factory shows which our young boys enjoyed as much as we did. The kids also loved making their sand ornaments, which was also good value and the staff were great too. The chairlift is fab but the cost of getting 4 of us down and back up is really high, even with the discount ticket books you can buy to save 25%. I guess it's more worth it if you're taking one of the boat trips when at the beach however seeing the coloured sand up close was fun.
  • Love the needles. Nice beach and nice views. In particular I enjoy watching the glassworks and sweet factory demonstrations as well as visiting the battery on top of the hill. National trust members get free parking but otherwise parking is very expensive.
  • 5 pounds for all day parking. Used the unlimited chair lift ride at 9pounds, really enjoyed going up and down great views and and a bit scary. Down at the pebble beach the cliffs looked amazing with the waves crashing. A great retro arcade with several penny pusher machines. The shops were typical British seaside town novelty gift souvenirs and local produce, over priced, but aren`t they always? I got there early, no queues until the coach loads turned up near lunch time. The staff were friendly and really took care of you on the chair lift. An amazing walk over to the battery. I really enjoyed the day there, but there were a few things there that were just not my bag.
  • Very nice area for a walk with lots to do near by. The old battery costs about a tenner for entry unless you're a national trust member and then it's free. There's not an awful lot to see in the battery but there is some information about its history and a good view of the needles. There's also a small free exhibit about when the area was used as a rocket test site. Good place to take a picnic and go for a long walk and enjoy the views.
  • Visited in good weather....... A complex has been built above the beach (accessible by chairlift and a steep path) that has many "touristry attractions". Walked up to the Old Fort and spent the whole day at the various attractions. Tip:- Join the National Trust for Free Parking
