  • Rural Wiltshire really is delightful with good areas to walk in around and about the castle. It's close to the Nadder valley in an AONB. If one wants peace and quiet on a country walk then visit here.
  • Finally got there in 2016 and was not disappointed. Lovely location and really good place to get married.
  • Fantastic place! Your imagination can run wild in a ruin like this :) the roads leading to it are very 'rural' shall we say but fun none the less and stunning views every where you turn.

  • Turned away at 3.30pm after one and a half hours travelling to find this castle (through very windy small roads - it's not easily accessible although we were based 25km away) We have travelled from Australia and it is our last day in the area. Disappointed the staff couldn't even greet us at the gates to tell us - he hid in the ticket booth even though he saw us roll up in our car. The castle closes at 4 and last entries are 3.30- not even kind enough to let us have a look or listen to our explanation. Especially as when my husband called to the groundskeeper at 3.33pm and told him I had been waiting to talk to him he refused to do us a kindness. My 4 year old and 7 year old sons were very disappointed and cried at being turned away. I really can't believe this sort of stuff happens to tourists but beware if you get an uncooperative grounds keeper. I will be reporting this to English Heritage.
  • It was beautiful, well kept and great for exploring. However, there were no bins on site at all. Apparently management took the decision to have no bins so that people would take away their rubbish (even dog poo bags!). I believe this is unacceptable given you have to pay for entry.
  • Good place, but for the admission they should throw in the audio tour. There needs to be more explanation of what you're looking at.
  • Definitely worth a visit if in the area. It's like nothing else.
  • Nice ruins for a short visit. And pretty cool to see some of the filming locations from Robin Hood!
