  • Fantastic place with so much to look around, wandering freely about the site there's a vast array of mining equipment, with the stunning mountain backdrop too. Great little train ride up through the old quarry to the top, and the people working there are very knowledgeable and great to talk to about the history of the quarry that used to be here, as well as the local area and qualities of the stone etc. The museum building itself has so much inside it, from in-depth details of the slate and other rocks mined in and around the area (and wider UK), to lots of photos and artefacts from mining and processing. Well worth a visit for a couple of hours, longer if you fancy waking around the whole site to look at every exhibit. Currently running diesel train several times let day, but advised the steam one has undergone some boiler work and should be back soon
  • This was our first time in the lake District and decided to go and have a look at this place. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and we were not disappointed with the amount of machinery that was available to look at. It's great to see the history of the place and how many quarries were available during the 1900's! A good amount of parking and even a train ride for the youngsters. And of course the spectacular view around the quarry. Coffee is available and a small collection of chocolate bars. Great way to spend a few hours
  • Was a wet Sunday afternoon, but so glad we went to the Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum. There was a lot of information and samples in the museum. The steam train ride was short but a joy, despite the rain! The staff were friendly and very helpful explaining the history to us.
  • The quarry was a nice place to visit, with the really nice and informative volunteers, as well with the train ride running up the line through the quarry. Even though it was raining a bit during day, it had no negative effect of the enjoyment of our visit to the quarry and mining museum.
  • This place was really quite pricey... Many of the exhibits were poorly maintained. We did panning for gold.... There wasn't anything to be panned. A lot of wasted time with a cranky toddler. Lady In the shop although lovely, can't add up. Tried to overcharge is twice. Train ride was a highlight although just a diesel not a steam ☹️ Wouldn't recommend unless you're a mining fanatic
