  • On a walk up and round Sutton Bank and the White Horse we stopped here for a breather. Tea at 50p was good and incredible value. From the window you could watch the gliders being towed up, it seemed t...  more »
  • I bought a 'flight experience' for my husband's birthday at a cost of £99. As arranged with the club, we went last week - Thurs 22nd Sept. His flight was booked for 3pm (we weren't offered a choice of...  more »
  • I took my 88 year old, pretty immobile Dad to the Gliding Club on Sunday. We met a pilot or two who happily talked aero planes with him and visited the cafe. It was a perfect outing. There was plenty ...  more »
  • Good club if you can afford it. I always wanted to soar over the White Horse since seeing gliders flying there when i was a kid visiting the area from Sunderland. They have a good selection of gliders, from tame trainers to very slippery (and scary for an ab initio!) Sports two-seaters. Even motor gliders but i don't fancy that too much. Instructor Steve is a really nice guy and magnificent pilot, did 2 winches and an aerotow the day i went, we got in the wave and were mile-high before we could think about it. Great place for ridge soaring and even better if you catch the wave and head out over Northallerton way. Thorough briefing on my ab initio day, great facilities, proper weather info etc.Canteen is cheap and wholesome, a proper Yorkshire brew and a bacon butty second to none. On the downside, no accomodation, a bit expensive, a business atmosphere rather than a club one. If you have about £200 to spare for your very first 3 flights, great. If you are rich enough, keep going there because it's great. Unfortunately i couldn't afford more than one visit, but thoroughly enjoyed the day. Now with a smaller, cheaper club.
  • Cheap for a cuppa and slice of cake, very tranquil watching the gliders take off...
  • Great day gliding!
