Carew Castle, Tenby

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web
The illustrious Careway family built Carew Castle in its strategic location along a lowland river estuary. Take advantage of the unique location and the views from the parapets. Built on a site with over 2,000 years of occupation, researchers have even found Iron Age settlements on the same hill. With over a millennium of history, the castle has experienced many periods of growth and decline. The modern site is now heavily restored, so use the audio guide to bring it to life. Visit the tidal mill, a type of mill which turns with the rise and fall of the estuary waters--one of only four left in Britain. The mill is a fifteen-minute walk from the castle. • Highly enjoyable place, very atmospheric. Drawing comparisons between the Norman, Tudor and Elizabethan architecture leads to memorable history lessons. Great fun wandering around the rooms and tunnels.
  • Very picturesque castle ruins with the ability to go around most of the ruins safely. Also, allows dogs throughout ruins and provides enough bins throughout positioned well as not to disturb the feel of the area. Well priced and well worth a visit.
  • Beautiful castle set in countryside, running next to a river. Pay admission fee for upkeep of castle. Nice little shop. Recommend coming here.
  • Not a bad little castle ruin to visit . Stop off at the pub afterwards - they do a cracking cream tea!
  • Amazing building in a picturesque location and good value too.
