Lydiard Park, Swindon

4.5
#1 of 8 in Sightseeing in Swindon
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Lydiard Park is the ancestral home of the Viscounts Bolingbroke. The Palladian house, Walled Garden, formal parkland and surrounding pasture are the striking remains of a great country estate, which reached its peak in the 18th century.

Inside Lydiard House, you can wander through the elegant State Rooms, where ornate plasterwork and original family furnishings are displayed alongside portraits of the St John family, who lived here from Elizabethan times. The Walled Garden is a rare example of a Georgian ornamental fruit and flower garden with seasonal displays of beautiful flowers, fruit trees and topiary.

  • one of my favourite places - suitable for all ages, and all types of people. good disabled access and the large grounds mean you can walk your dog everywhere. lovely little shops and tearooms inside and the two parks keep all aged children entertained for hours. beautiful grounds and the fields are very spacious for a number of activities. 100% would recommend!!
  • The grand manor house and the accompanying picturesque fields aside it provide a magnificent place to take a relaxing stroll, sit down and have a picnic or let your children play in the two dedicated play areas. Lydiard Lake and St Mary's church are also great places to see, especially the church which goes back over a thousand years. Overall, a great day out for people of all ages, as it offers something for everyone.
  • Beautiful place to explore, with lots of space for the children to play. There are many paths and trails so it's great for walking or jogging. There is a fairly large lake, playground for all ages and a cafe/shop to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cup of tea/coffee. There is plenty to see and do here. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Large open space with a lake and numerous paths to explore. Relaxing place to walk and has a small cafe to relax in afterwards. Only downside is that parking is often difficult to find when the weather is good.
  • Amazing park. Its huge. Great for a walk or a picnic. Nice big lake with ducks and swans....
