Lydiard Park, Swindon
(4.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Lydiard Park is the ancestral home of the Viscounts Bolingbroke. The Palladian house, Walled Garden, formal parkland and surrounding pasture are the striking remains of a great country estate, which reached its peak in the 18th century.

Inside Lydiard House, you can wander through the elegant State Rooms, where ornate plasterwork and original family furnishings are displayed alongside portraits of the St John family, who lived here from Elizabethan times. The Walled Garden is a rare example of a Georgian ornamental fruit and flower garden with seasonal displays of beautiful flowers, fruit trees and topiary.

  • Great adventure playgrounds. Almost infinite playing space. Bring scooters and bikes if you have children. Shady picnic spots. I have annual pass for house and walled garden - garden is great to escape to if park gets busy. There is also a lovely well decorated church.
  • I love Lydiard park and can always remember taking my children there when they were younger. A great place for parents with young children as there is always something there for to keep them entertained, and the house is well worth having a look around!!!
  • It is a shame that you now have to pay for the car park, but I still love to come here for a walk on a nice day! Great place to go for a run as well.
