  • Very surprising! Fun, quirky, whacky. Hence the name National Glass Center, you get an idea of what you will find in this place. Glass galore! As well as the chance to see an artist's finished piece, you get a glimpse of the innovation from young minds driving the glass scene forward. The hot shop is particularly fascinating, as you get to watch the artist melt glass at like a bazillion degrees (
  • A gem of an attraction in a magnificent setting on the banks of the River Wear. Well worth a visit, watch the glass objects be made on site by local craftsmen and buy some unique pieces in the gift shop. The restaurant is reasonably priced, the food is delicious and the staff are very friendly, polite and professional. Don't forget to walk on the glass roof (beware if you are wearing a dress or a skirt... the people below might be looking up). A great place to visit.
  • We planned a quick visit but spent almost all day there admiring the works, the live demonstration and the exhibits.. Couldn't walk on the roof because of the weather conditions but the place deserve a long visit...the restaurant is big with a great menu and quick and friendly staff...they are always busy!!! Take your kids
  • Changing displays and interesting demonstrations in a fantastic building with a great location. Wonderful cafe/restaurant with views over the River and docks.
  • Went to the restuarant yesterday and sat down outside, not very busy but after waiting for about 15 mins no approach from staff although a waitress walked past twice and totally ignored us, 4 members of staff inside chatting to each other and making no attempt to ask if we would like to order. We left and had a coffee elsewhere, NON EXISTENT service especially as they were not busy. Most places are struggling to survive would have thought they would have welcomed the income!
