  • No matter where you go in Sunderland, it won't be long before you are walking in a park. I've been to many cities in the world, and I don't think I've come across so many parks. Strange as it may seem...  more »

  • Lovely place too visit. Very relaxing. Great for family picnics visit or just a day out in the fresh air yourself. Close proximity to Penshaw Monument too for a wonderful view at the top of the hill.
  • I was born in New Herrington in 1943 and after working in the mines for 10 years moved to London. I do not get back very often but I visited last week and my brother took me to Herrington Country Park. When I was a kid the area was covered in huge spoil heaps but as kids we had great times playing on them. The transformed area is great and Sunderland Council should be congratulated making such a great job of it. However I found no history there, maybe I missed something as I only paid a flying visit, but I went to the Stone Henge structure which I understand was built on top of the old mine shaft. There was nothing at all to inform a visitor of it's history. I am now in my 70s and when my generation pop their clogs the history of the area will die with us so come on Sunderland put up a few boards to explain the proud history of the area.
  • Great day out for all the family. Free Parking. loads pf space to walk, ride bikes, skater park, Interesting play park and cafe for hot drinks, ice creams and food. Would definitely recommend. Pens haw Monument is also just a short walk away.
  • Lovely park, plenty of parking, good paths. Playpark can get rather boggy but lots of equipment. Has cafe and toilets.
  • Beautiful park easily accessible from anywhere in the Sunderland area. Lakes, woods, walks, cycle paths, play park, cafe and lots of open spaces makes this one of my favourite destinations.
