One of the world’s best-preserved Industrial Revolution textile mills, heritage-listed Quarry Bank is now a museum of the cotton industry. Discover how an entire industrial community lived in and around this mill, which was built in 1784. The site includes Europe’s most powerful working waterwheel and numerous machines and steam engines. Knowledgeable staff demonstrators explain the progression of the cotton industry and guide visitors through the various exhibits and the apprentice house, which once housed pauper children employed at the mill. You can stroll through the site’s sprawling gardens or visit the Styal village, where the majority of the mill’s workers lived. Check online for upcoming special events, guided walks, and informative tours. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Styal trip simple and quick.

It is overpriced and there are other mills which go into more detail about the technical process of weaving and textiles making.

Lovely place to look around the mill and a lovely place to go walking. Really enjoyed it. Also was lovely to see it busy on a bank holiday with lots of families too.

I’ve spent so much time running and taking the kids round the woods, it never gets old. The National Trust do such a good job of looking after the woodland area. Thank you!!

Beautiful, especially in autumn.

Enjoyed a pleasant walk here while on a visit to Quarry Bank Mill. It's about 15 minutes walk from the Apprentice House to the woods along a public footpath (turn left at the village cross). Beautiful woodland with little bridges across streams and well maintained paths leading right down to the river bank. It gets very steep in places. A lovely peaceful spot to appreciate the beauty of nature. Great place to walk a dog too.
-
Beautiful. Lovely, varied length walks available around the woods. Include Styal Mill grounds too with ease if you wish.
-
Very nice woods, discovered by accident. We will go back to discover more.
