Take a trip through time and admire one of the oldest man-made structures on the British Isles at Ring of Brodgar. The scenic and secluded area surrounding the stone circle provides a perfect setting for a peaceful stroll. • How wonderful to visit this ancient site, and to be able to walk right up to the stones (unlike Stonehenge). There is no visitor's center - all you need is your imagination and curiosity.  more »
  • This site reminded me of Stone Henge, which I visited when younger and could walk around freely. Not now - but you can here, relatively. It stands starkly on the skyline, and has for 500 years longer ...  more »
  • An amazing place to realize you are just one person on earth...and so many came before you. A silent walk about with history  more »

  • This is another Neolithic henge site, part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. It's more impressive than the Standing Stones of Stenness by virtue of its size (there are many more stones standing in a much larger circumference circle), and definitely worth seeing (especially since there's no admission fee), but our kids preferred the Stenness site because there were wide areas of lawn all around that they could run around on freely -- as opposed to the relatively narrow and sometimes muddy and slippery path you have to follow around the ring at Brodgar (it may not always be in this condition -- there was a sign that warned about this due to the excessive amount of precipitation this year). In any case, definitely worth a stop. There's a parking lot a few hundred meters away from the site (a few minutes' walk).
  • Large and impressive neolithic stone circle, the most complete in Orkney and easily one of the most impressive in Britain A must-see
  • Amazingly easy access and free to walk around these ancient stones.
  • Amazing 2000 BC year old site.
  • Amazing stone circle part of one of the oldest Neolithic finds in Britain.
