  • A spectacular neolithic monument in the wondrous isles of Orkney. A magical place and quite amazing to view. You can get up close to the standing stones - a real rarity for national landmarks like this.
  • Unfortunately half the site is currently fenced off to enable essential conservation/access works to be carried out. Otherwise, the place has as much atmosphere as Stonehenge, though uniquely its own and its setting on a narrow isthmus between 2 large lochs is stunning. Not to be missed!
  • A very interesting ancient site. Parking is close by and you have to cross a road and walk up a grass track to access the stones. It was was particularly muddy the day we went there so we had to abandon our visit with two young children. A visit by the infirm wouldn't be advisable either as the ground was so slippery. My suggestion would be to bring your wellies!
  • Absolutely awesome! We also got a great peak season free tour from Elaine Clarke, which really made the experience so so much better. Try to go at 1PM on Tuesday or Thursday if you're there during the peak.
  • Really interesting artefact, if numbers of visitors keep increasing, the current ability to get up close and touch the stones will be lost and it will go the same way as Stonehenge. Could do with a constructed walkway to save the surrounding area from the footfall. Good car park not too far away.
