  • At last 1 activity left on Orkney you don't have to pay to see and it doesn't have couch load of tourists going round. Excellent natural monument that has not been made into a tourist trap
  • A fabulous stone circle with huge stones and a fascinating history. The weather here is often unkind but in all kinds of weathers it is majestic and wondrous
  • Wind swept and cold weather in June did not deter us. Cannot be described. Needs to be experienced. A must when visiting Orkney.

  • This is another Neolithic henge site, part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. It's more impressive than the Standing Stones of Stenness by virtue of its size (there are many more stones standing in a much larger circumference circle), and definitely worth seeing (especially since there's no admission fee), but our kids preferred the Stenness site because there were wide areas of lawn all around that they could run around on freely -- as opposed to the relatively narrow and sometimes muddy and slippery path you have to follow around the ring at Brodgar (it may not always be in this condition -- there was a sign that warned about this due to the excessive amount of precipitation this year). In any case, definitely worth a stop. There's a parking lot a few hundred meters away from the site (a few minutes' walk).
  • Large and impressive neolithic stone circle, the most complete in Orkney and easily one of the most impressive in Britain A must-see
  • Amazingly easy access and free to walk around these ancient stones.
  • Amazing 2000 BC year old site.
  • Amazing stone circle part of one of the oldest Neolithic finds in Britain.
