The River Avon Trail, Stratford-upon-Avon
(4.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Stretch your legs on The River Avon Trail, running along both sides of the famous river. Choose a walk along the north bank to see the renowned Royal Shakespeare Theater and the world-famous Holy Trinity Church, noted for being Shakespeare’s burial place. A walk along the south bank takes visitors through the recreation grounds, where local brass bands often hold their performances. You can sit on the grass, soak up the atmosphere, mingle with the locals, and enjoy a light picnic lunch, while the music plays in the background.  The more adventurous walkers can take a path from Lucy Mill out into the surrounding countryside. To get even farther out, rent a bike and cycle along the traffic-free Stratford Greenway. Don’t forget to bring your camera! • Loved teaching kids about locks, liked watching rowers and swans. Lovely countryside river stroll even in winter.
  • Nice views from either side of river. Next time I will walk more of this well marked trail, nice easy terrain, suitable for all
  • The River Avon, with its consistently attractive views and waterside gardens, theatre and church, is one of the strengths of Stratford, so take advantage of it and walk its banks.
