Where to stay in Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, has a wealth of hotels, guesthouses, country inns, and self-catering apartments. For big-name hotels, look no farther than the historical town center, where most of the area's big attractions are located. • Compton Verney never fails to give fascinating enjoyment and a sense of privilege to be in its well presented grounds. Today I took advantage of the floor talk for 'Creating the Countryside: The Rural Idyl Past and Present and it is a wonderful example of many of their exhibitions, incorporating art facts with social history and anecdotes of how the works were devised. And there was a placard to indicate where the Medieval village once stood. And the bamboo tunnel, last seen as a row of crossed twigs, is growing well. The air is so cool inside as I walked its length. Another satisfying visit.
  • Nice gallery to walk around and excellently prepared for children with a fun room for all ages to play and keep occupied. You can also take a bag from reception with binoculars and compass for walking around the grounds. Brilliant idea. The outdoor play area is good too
  • The grounds are lovely, playground for children, good walks - none difficult. Cafe very good, delicious cakes, good range of gluten free. Didn't visit art gallery, but very interesting art installations in the grounds. Well worth a visit.
  • Great grounds and house. Playpark for the kids and a peaceful, well kept garden. Reasonable yearly pass price as well, at £10 per adult.
  • Quiet, picturesque and a lovely way to wile away an afternoon. Restaurant quite pricey so I'd recommend a picnic with the views to accompany it.
