  • Really nicely laid out exhibitions. Staff all exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended in a town that has little to offer!  more »
  • The highlight of the museum must be the few Lewis chessman on display. Iconic reminders of the discovory in Uig. The museum uses digital displays and the room with the sights and sounds of the local s...  more »
  • It was a good visit to this growing "Museum nan Eilean" right next to a cafe within Lews Castle itself. The current sized museum would take a little over an hour to appreciate, with everything on disp...  more »

  • The museum and archive have just recently reopened in their new location at the Castle. They provide an excellent insight into the history of Island life with a mix of traditional exhibits and multimedia. The museum includes a lot of personal stories which help bring the history to life. As with most Scottish museums entry is free (though you can make a donation). Would be good if it was a bit larger, one room wasnt yet in use when we visited but it was only the second day of opening. The attached cafe and gift shop are a bit expensive, but isn't that always the case these days.
