Dunnottar Castle Parking, Stonehaven
(4.6/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Perched atop steep cliffs that plunge 50 m (160 ft) down to the North Sea, Dunnottar Castle Parking is what's left of the strategically located home of one of Scotland's noble families. The ruins spread across a 3.5 acre (1.4 hectare) plot on the cliff’s edge. One of the largest buildings is the tower house, which stood 15 m (49 ft) when at its full height. It had a great hall and upstairs bedrooms for the castle's lord. Wear good walking shoes to the site because the parking lot is located at the base of an 800 m (2,600 ft) footpath that leads up to the castle. • I took my 10 year old son with me and we had a great time. The scenery is so great. Loved the walk and hike down to the ocean. I asked my son what he would give this on trip advisor - he said 4 becaus...  more »
  • Who's going to the Dunottar Castle should be good and like stairs! It's worth for the views of the cliffs and the Castle. All in all you can reside there for really long and wonderful walk / go hiking. My absolute highlight of the castle of the many I've visited in Scotland! We were in September there, and had the Castle almost for us alone, which has embellished the atmosphere several-fold.

  • Magical place. At the end of the road we see suddenly the ruins of Dunnottar Castle, overlooking a rocky peak. Majestic.

  • Beautifully located carpark with only a short walk to the castle. There's a place to buy hot food there as well.
  • Amazing views and good access, bit pricey to go in the castle though.
  • Small and over-subscribed. The surfacing is not even. Take the advice and walk up from Stonehaven
  • The parking itself was great with easy access to the trail leading to the castle. The trail itself it quite long and steep for those with who have a more difficult time with that. Get there early though as the parking lot isn't that big.
  • very nice view, and entrance cost is also less comparatively. 7£.worth it
