  • Hidden gem in Stirling. Full of history in a beautiful setting at the river forth. Castle is in sight in one direction and the Wallace monument in another. Shame the bell tower hasn't being restored, I understand you've not been able to climb the steps for over 60 years or thereabouts, the views over the surrounding areas must be fantastic. Definitely worth a visit especially as it is free! I went down after closing time and the gate was unlocked, not sure if this is normal but there were other visitors in the graveyard area so worth a try.
  • Great place to explore. Plenty of history to soak up. Legend has it that part of William Wallace is buried here... true or not; It's a nice tale to think about as you wander round.
  • Opens during daylight hours though varies through the year. When it is open the gate is unlocked and you are free to wander. See the tower of the Abbey, the foundation of the original abbey and various graves including the reputed burial spot of ar least some of William Wallaces remains. Look for the grave with flowers on it. Well worth a visit especially if you have read up a little on its history first. Free.
  • Accidentally found this walking back from Wallace monument and it has interesting history
  • Access to the Abbey was closed for the season, but even from behind the fence this looked very impressive and full of character.
