  • The beautiful city of Stirling has various attractions, including the Castle, and apparently this discourages city officials from engaging in them all. Cannot be explained otherwise the almost absolute lack of reports (even in the guidebooks Lonely Planet type, however) of this interesting Augustinian Abbey of XI century situated a few hundred metres beyond the Stirling Bridge. Agreed: the original building remained mostly just ruins, but the foundations have been well researched and well written signs explain the function of each building, and the 14th century bell tower which has remained intact, the result of a later addition than the original body but still evidence of a distant past, is a fine example of architecture of the late medieval era. We discovered by chance, across the bridge and along the pleasant Riverside District, made up of a succession of fine traditional Scottish style houses: a sign there revealed the existence of this little gem buried. There were few to visit: I hope that other Italian tourists are following our route.

  • Beautiful quiet place with some ruins... beautiful nature and cows are around... kids had fun... it was tricky to park the car... but finlly we parked on the grass near the door after we entered the open gate... nice small town around too... if you are around nice to see it for 15 minutes... it's open for public.
  • Interesting piece of hidden history. Given it 4* rating because of location, it's free, and they have gone to the effort of having handy information boards in a variety of places. Worth a 20 minute visit.
  • Hidden gem in Stirling. Full of history in a beautiful setting at the river forth. Castle is in sight in one direction and the Wallace monument in another. Shame the bell tower hasn't being restored, I understand you've not been able to climb the steps for over 60 years or thereabouts, the views over the surrounding areas must be fantastic. Definitely worth a visit especially as it is free! I went down after closing time and the gate was unlocked, not sure if this is normal but there were other visitors in the graveyard area so worth a try.
  • Great place to explore. Plenty of history to soak up. Legend has it that part of William Wallace is buried here... true or not; It's a nice tale to think about as you wander round.
  • An interesting little place with a royal burial site. It is one of the smaller Historic Scotland site with a tower, which has only the ground level open and the stone foundations of further structures.
