  • I loved this place, walked to it on a drizzly Sunday afternoon. Was the only person there with the exception of some sheep and Shetland ponies. A very good example of a chambered cairn  more »
  • While Unstan Chambered Cairn is not as well known as some of its more popular cousins, it is just as interesting. This late Neolithic era tomb is believed to have been built between 3,500 to 2,500 BC....  more »
  • We visited Unstan almost by accident and were glad we did. It is of a different internal design from Maeshowe and Cuween and for that is well worth the visit. It can be entered (just) without crawling...  more »

  • Ancient burial chamber that is freely open to the public. There's not much to it, but I don't think they were thinking about tourists back then! The entrance is very low meaning that you have to do a kind of stooped crawl for a short period, so no good for those with access issues.
