Porthminster Beach, St Ives

4.6
#1 of 58 in Things to do in St Ives
Porthminster Beach, crescent-shaped, sheltered, popular, and accessible by public transport, offers safe swimming, golden sand, and even palm trees. Look for the not-far-off Godrevy Lighthouse, grab a drink at the bar, and enjoy some quality people-watching. The calm blue-green water gives the beach a soothing, nearly tropical ambience. The Porthminster Beach cafe is widely renowned for high-quality seaside dining. A visit to Porthminster Beach represents just the start of the adventure when you use our St Ives vacation planner to plot your vacation.

Lovely soft sand, incredible light (photos, painting) plenty of space, great surfing. Lovely cafe. Walk there as parking can be both expensive and a nightmare in high season.  more »

  • A nice walk down to this beach, there was some nice seating by it as well to sit. :-)
  • Lovely atmosphere and very beautiful. Public toilets are clean.
  • Beautiful beach with good facilities
  • Amazing beach but if you must eat on the beach please beware of the seagulls. More cheek than Oliver Twist.
  • Lovely beach. Filthy disgusting public toilets.

Where to stay in St Ives

A guest room along one of the cobbled Victorian streets, such as Fore Street, provides access to pubs, restaurants and the harbor. For spectacular views over the sea, consider a hotel near the water. Book harborside lodging early because seaside rooms fill up fast, especially during the holiday season. Inland from the southern coastline, renovated shepherd's huts and cottages provide shelter among the hills.
