Porthminster Beach, St Ives

4.8
Porthminster Beach, crescent-shaped, sheltered, popular, and accessible by public transport, offers safe swimming, golden sand, and even palm trees. Look for the not-far-off Godrevy Lighthouse, grab a drink at the bar, and enjoy some quality people-watching. The calm blue-green water gives the beach a soothing, nearly tropical ambience. The Porthminster Beach cafe is widely renowned for high-quality seaside dining. • Amazing beach. One of the best in the UK and for very good reason. You forget you're in England with crystal clear water and bright yellow sandy beach. The train into St. Ives stops at the beach and one of the most scenic in Britain. The beach is raked every morning. There is free activities for children in peak season during the day. Lots of places to eat (expensive though), bars, mini golf 🏌, small fair rides and mostly importantly free showers and toilets. Can also see seals bathing in the open sea. Highly recommended. If you want Indian Ocean style beach in England, THIS is it!
  • We have visited this beach once or twice a year for the past 10 or so years and we love it for a day out. It has a cafe, BBQ, shop, ice cream, bar, etc all right on the beach with toilets and changing rooms nearby. The beach itself is lovely soft golden sands, the water is clear, often calm and pleasant to swim in. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed and you can just feel everyone enjoying themselves around you. It can get pretty busy but I've never experienced it being totally overcrowded even in summer holidays. The only slight downside is because the beach faces northeast with a tall hill immediately behind it, it loses the sun earlier in the day but it doesn't really detract from the enjoyment - my two sons spend all day building sandcastles and playing in the water every time we come here. Love it and highly recommend a visit.
  • Fantastic beach for swimming and SUPing. Great beach cafe and bar.😁😁
  • Beautiful place love the beach great town but it's not a place to drive in or park easy I made that mistake took over an hour to find somewhere to park as we did not know about the shuttle service from outside the town so next time will do this
  • Lovely little white sand beach just down from the railway station - easy to get to from there down a flight of steps.

Where to stay in St Ives

A guest room along one of the cobbled Victorian streets, such as Fore Street, provides access to pubs, restaurants and the harbor. For spectacular views over the sea, consider a hotel near the water. Book harborside lodging early because seaside rooms fill up fast, especially during the holiday season. Inland from the southern coastline, renovated shepherd's huts and cottages provide shelter among the hills.
