A great 'family friendly' place to visit. Regular flying displays take place throughout the day (weather permitting) which are fun and informative. In addition, a selection of the birds are taken to an area where the public can see them up close and where appropriate 'stroke' them under the supervision of the staff. Each bird is introduced and their story told by their handler who are obviously very knowledgeable and caring for the birds and other animals in their care. There is a cafe on site which sells a good range of drinks and snacks including delicious cream teas!
We had a very warm welcome by who we presume was the owner/manager who explained everything about the sanctuary before we went in. The owls (and the other animals) are in spacious enclosures and the trained birds are allowed to get out and have exercise as part of the flight demonstrations 3 times a day. There was an enclosure which would potentially upset smaller children (the owls food was on the floor) but this is due to the owls becoming very territorial with their chicks preventing the staff from entering the enclosure, this is a working sanctuary after all. If you are a fan of animals, in particular owls and other birds this is a lovely place to visit if you are in the area.
Fantastic day out, loved seeing all the different species of Owls and other birds of prey. Regular fight demos , nice cafe and gift shop. Friendly staff
We live locally and wanted to visit for a while. We went in the colder months and the staff were really knowledgable and friendly. Amazingly little place, have recommended it as a definite visit for all visiting friends.
A great place to go. Our daughter (2yrs old) loved the flying display and got to hold an owl. The cafe food is good with a good sized play area. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable which is always nice. Next time we are down in that part, we shall go to visit again. Would recommend the visit.
