Had to visit even though we don't play golf. A very impressive attraction and enjoyed walking around the courses. The gift shop was very expensive though.  more »

Just because I don't play golf, that does not mean that I am not interested in the golf course! We booked a one hour walking tour through the St. Andrews golf course website. The price is reasonable a...  more »

My Christmas gift was a trip to St. Andrews, where I lived in the Fairmont Hotel and played golf. Was great, but if you ever spot, looks it of course even the old course on... and then the unbelievable happened, that I got a start time due to a cancellation (single player)! I had heard that the place is not so exciting, but I was absolutely thrilled! It is not easy to play, the fairways are cut extremely short, so I went after such as distance to the green with 6 iron to "putt the ball well at about 25-30 m" what worked in super! From the bunker to come out sideways or backward best and who would leave the room satisfied, should play always "safe"! It's hard enough without that in addition to deal at risk! After 12:00 h., you can rent Trollrys. Before 12:00 should you wear or a caddie hire (costs on top!). The square itself was more like an open field. Too far left or right played balls were thus still playable, but it was sometimes difficult to see how the cars were and to which green you should. It was very many double Greens that... Thus there were very large Greens with two flags, which were used at the same time by two lanes balls that flew from everywhere and people running around everywhere. It was already a very special mood and I'm confident - I come back! Yes, and still a point... the camera definitely bring, for the mandatory on the 18th hole photo at the small stone bridge.

Where to stay in St. Andrews

less expensive lodging and luxury rental apartments are located around the town center and the university buildings. Be sure to book accommodations overlooking the sea and St. Andrew Cathedral ruins early, because they fill up fast during the good weather months. Rental properties in the town center on narrow streets, such as Market Street, are within walking distance of the main architectural and cultural attractions. Save money by renting a room farther west of the town center. These are residential neighborhoods that are well-connected to the town center but offer quiet nights and inexpensive nightly rates.
