  • Beautiful garden, always enjoyable visit. The garden is not very large but quite diverse, there is meadow with the pond, Alpine area, glass houses, flower beds. Great trails and activities for children, or just space to run and see different plants and trees.
  • Nice gardens. Called ahead to see if the butterfly experience was running and were told yes it's £2.95 entry per person. Arrived to be charged £10.50 for and adult and child and told that we also had to purchase entry to the gardens on top, might have mentioned that earlier! That aside the place was nice, staff knowledgeable and butterflies beautiful. Good wet day activity.
  • Great for families. Butterflies were a particular attraction for our children. Knowledgeable staff (volunteers). Gardens were well organized and interesting. Orchard areas had apples, plums and pears. All very interactive.
  • Excellent place for a day out- the butterfly lepidopterarium is well worth a walk around.
  • So much to see and the Byre in the Botanic is excellent. Would've been 5 stars if it wasn't for the rip off prices at the bar tent. £5 for a 330ml tin of cider....

Where to stay in St. Andrews

less expensive lodging and luxury rental apartments are located around the town center and the university buildings. Be sure to book accommodations overlooking the sea and St. Andrew Cathedral ruins early, because they fill up fast during the good weather months. Rental properties in the town center on narrow streets, such as Market Street, are within walking distance of the main architectural and cultural attractions. Save money by renting a room farther west of the town center. These are residential neighborhoods that are well-connected to the town center but offer quiet nights and inexpensive nightly rates.
