  • First visit to St Albans which is rich in history. The clock tower is a focal point for local guided walks. There is a seating area in front of the tower. A good place to sit and rest whilst touring t...  more »
  • I loved this clock tower. It was small but i love anything clocks. It has 93 stairs to the top and has an amazing view of the city from the top. Beware the stairs are VERY narrow and small. But for a ...  more »
  • Well worth a visit when open. Fantastic views of St Albans from the top. (There's no lift, obviously). Very, very modest cost. Check opening times to avoid disappointment.  more »

  • Arrrghhh... Sometimes the Clock Tower is open and you can climb the stairs to the top for £1. It's terrifying. Very vertiginous. I got up about 5 steps then had to go back down and leave the children to carry on to the top by themselves. 'What's the worst thing that could happen?' I thought, the sensible one was nearly 7 years old then after all and more than capable of looking after the other 3 (or was it 4?). Off they went, running gaily up the 93, steep and narrow stone steps, undoubtedly to see who could reach the top of the tower first and then who could lean furthest over the edge. Competitive. Anyway, the lady who sold the tickets was nice and offered me my £1 back, which I declined, I went across to the nearby tremendous pub: The Boot, to calm my nerves for a few hours. I completely forgot about the children. They're probably still up there.
  • This fantastic old tower is one St Albans major landmarks. It is a steep and narrow climb to the top but well worth it for the sights you can see at the top. It is more difficult descending the steps so take care.
  • It is a great tower to climb, only 92 steps and there are little stops so you don't have to climb it all at once. Lots of history is explained about the tower, clock and bell, on boards throughout the tower. Worth a visit just for the views across the Hertfordshire countryside
  • Pleasant on this tiny historic square under the Grade I Listed medieval tower. Look out for the... "2-light cusped ogee window with trefoils in spandrels, under square hood mould"* on the top stage. And so now you also know. *Historic England.
  • historic place. Sitting outside on a sunny Saturday (marketday) is something different.
