Southwold Pier, Southwold

4.3
Southwold Pier offers a nostalgic way to experience the seaside. Pleasure piers, which feature attractions for visitors, had their heyday in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but this one in Southwold still bustles and offers plenty of fun. It extends 190 m (623 ft) out into the sea and holds restaurants, shops, and games. Dine on fresh seafood such as local mussels, browse ceramics and textiles, and head into the amusement arcade for air hockey, bowling, and stomping spiders. Check out the hand-built machines in the under-the-pier show; they offer offbeat entertainment such as "whacking a banker." A shop on the pier sells everything you need for an afternoon of relaxing on the beach. Make Southwold Pier a part of your Southwold vacation plans using our Southwold travel planner .

  • Lovely pier bringing back memories of my seaside holidays as a child. Two lovely gift shops minus seaside tat! Clean and well maintained and plenty of seats to rest and gaze at the sea. Lovely fish and chips in cafe. All staff were professional and pleasant and helpful. Cant wait to return.
  • This was during our UK vacation. This place was a lot of fun. They had an arcade on the pier with a few games you could play for about a quarter each. They we're fun games that you would not find in the states. Quite unique. Situated by the North Sea.
  • A charming pier with cafes and gift shops. Sadly the water powered clock wasn't working on the day we visited. Along the rails were hundreds of brass plaques some dedicated to love ones others just praising the beautiful place of Southwold. It made interesting and amusing reading as you strolled along.
  • Excellent place for couples or the family. I would recommend the amazing amusements half way up the pier behind the clock. Don't get me started on the incredible clock.....
  • Great little pier and facilities. Quirky entertainment and art installations once you get past the amusements at the front. It's a little annoying you are forced to walk through the amusements to get to the toilet after using the cafe. And it wasn't obvious that there was some other nicer eateries further along the pier
