Southwold Pier, Southwold

4.3
Southwold Pier offers a nostalgic way to experience the seaside. Pleasure piers, which feature attractions for visitors, had their heyday in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but this one in Southwold still bustles and offers plenty of fun. It extends 190 m (623 ft) out into the sea and holds restaurants, shops, and games. Dine on fresh seafood such as local mussels, browse ceramics and textiles, and head into the amusement arcade for air hockey, bowling, and stomping spiders. Check out the hand-built machines in the under-the-pier show; they offer offbeat entertainment such as "whacking a banker." A shop on the pier sells everything you need for an afternoon of relaxing on the beach. Make Southwold Pier a part of your Southwold vacation plans using our Southwold travel planner .

  • Great place for a burger, fish and chips and a Mr Whippy. Then next door for the 2 penny games. They have a wonderful selection of games to play.  more »

  • You can get an excellent coffee on the pier apart from other beverages and food. Lovely little traditional shops that aren't too expensive with a variety of goods. Old gaming machines, funny mirrors and the most wonderful water clock. It's like going back in time. That's the charm for me. One of my favourite places.
  • What a lovely and picturesque place! The pier is well looked after, full of little surprises. There's a really unusual amusement arcade halfway down - certainly worth the visit! The beaches are lovely and the sand fine. A perfect little spot for the whole family. Be warned though, high tide brings the sea to the top of the beach - it chased us off, but the children loved it! Perfectly pleasant.
  • Fantastic Pier to visit, very windy, wet day, but had fun in the arcade on the 2p machines, brought back a few memories of childhood. It would be great to visit in the Summer time. The ice creams were fantastic
  • The beach and waterfront you can see from the pier, with the lovely little cabins, the dunes and the beach side of Southwold is very picturesque. The pier itself has lots to do - restaurants, a museum, fun art, coffee shops and various kinds of activities. The pier is very wide, with ample passage on both sides around the businesses that run down the middle. This makes walking along the pier a good activity for anyone - young, old, or handcapped. It is easy to spend an hour just meandering along and seeing the sights.
  • What a lovely place to visit! Lots to see and do! Great reasonably priced cafes on the sea front. Great to see the huts with families enjoying the views and a sandy beach! Well worth a visit and you can hire a hut from only £25 a day which is a bargain.
