Southwold Pier, Southwold

4.3
Southwold Pier offers a nostalgic way to experience the seaside. Pleasure piers, which feature attractions for visitors, had their heyday in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but this one in Southwold still bustles and offers plenty of fun. It extends 190 m (623 ft) out into the sea and holds restaurants, shops, and games. Dine on fresh seafood such as local mussels, browse ceramics and textiles, and head into the amusement arcade for air hockey, bowling, and stomping spiders. Check out the hand-built machines in the under-the-pier show; they offer offbeat entertainment such as "whacking a banker." A shop on the pier sells everything you need for an afternoon of relaxing on the beach. Make Southwold Pier a part of your Southwold vacation plans using our Southwold travel planner .

  • As always a lovely place to visit. I was pleased to see the water clock working and we had an amazingly tasty meal in the restaurant there. The desserts are also insanely yummy I would go back just to eat there! Also great views from the pier back to the Southwold sea front and word and wonderful games to play on the under the sea area.
  • Unique place for spending family day out. Few nice little shops and places for a lunch. And one completely surreal entertainment saloon which looks like a crossover between Fallout and Bioshock mixed with British flavour:) A real must see!
  • Quirky pier on the east coast set in lovely Southwold. A far cry from a pier like Walton or Clacton, which is more ideal for children.
  • Lively, varied, traditional British seaside but with marvellously quirky and witty amusements. Unique to Southwold.
  • Southwold is one of those places well worth a visit. It's olde worlde with plenty to see and do. The beach huts cost a fortune and the pier has some quirky entertainment machines hand built by the owner. The local brewery shop is also worth a visit and they have distilled beer - yes beer at 43% - that you can taste before you buy. Just don't try too much if you are driving.
