Southwold Pier, Southwold
Categories: Piers & Boardwalks, Tourist Spots
Southwold Pier offers a nostalgic way to experience the seaside. Pleasure piers, which feature attractions for visitors, had their heyday in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but this one in Southwold still bustles and offers plenty of fun. It extends 190 m (623 ft) out into the sea and holds restaurants, shops, and games. Dine on fresh seafood such as local mussels, browse ceramics and textiles, and head into the amusement arcade for air hockey, bowling, and stomping spiders. Check out the hand-built machines in the under-the-pier show; they offer offbeat entertainment such as "whacking a banker." A shop on the pier sells everything you need for an afternoon of relaxing on the beach. For Southwold Pier and beyond, use our Southwold vacation planner to get the most from your Southwold vacation.

So many piers these days try to cater to everyone and everything. Southwold Pier however, is a 'proper' pier with a traditional and slightly quirky feel to it. Popular all year round.

Very nice. Old style pier with shops, cafe and amusements. A couple of interesting sculptures and some free hall of mirrors type installations on the outside which were fun. The amusement arcade claimed everything was home made and I can believe it - it was slightly grotesque in a way kids like. Nicely maintained and has good views of the beaches. George Orwell quotes are used in a mural on the back of the main building.
Good selection of places to eat and more seating than expected. Not bad for a quick trip to the end. The left side (as you're looking towards the water) is usually easier to walk down than the right side.
Excellent pier and beach for the summer. Not too commercialised compared to other seaside resorts nearby. Fish and chips with Punch and Judy.......what more could you want on a summers day .
Great pier with lovely features and things to do. Check the water feature clock and old arcade.
Great random fun for everyone. Querky
