  • Had a great one hour intro lesson with Simmo today - think it was well over an hour actually. Thanks so much for your patience! There were two of us and I'd never done any real sort of climbing before...  more »

  • They have a big wall for roped climbs, a bouldering area and a training area (system wall, campus boards, gymnastics rings, no hangboards), good (clean) toilets and changing rooms. Extremely pleasant, friendly, helpful staff. Shoes and other gear all available for hire. A small shop. The big wall looks excellent, though I didn't try it on my visit as I just wanted to work on boulder problems. They also have a really good soft play area for children. The bouldering was a lot better than I'd expected with a surprising number of problems given it's quite a small space. Several problems I couldn't do - generally quite a 'hard' set, though it's always harder climbing somewhere unfamiliar where you're not used to the setters / wall angles! If you like indoor boulder problems I'd definitely recommend checking this place out, particularly given the lack of other similar facilities in North Devon. There are admittedly some things which could easily be done to improve the set up: (i) starting holds are not always clearly marked; (ii) there are several problems which seem to use colours which aren't on the grade 'key' so you don't know what grade they're supposed to be; (iii) there are several problems where holds of similar colours which are actually parts of different problems have been used close together; (iv) in some places there are big gaps between the underlying mats, which is not ideal because of the risk of turning over an ankle; (v) similarly, there are some loose holds. Other walls I've climbed at are really hot on this, with signs asking you to report loose / spinning holds immediately, and they rush to fix them when you do but they didn't seem that bothered! These are pretty minor criticisms though - I will definitely be going back.
  • Good hostel, a large group of us used. Full kitchen, lots of toilets. Had to bring sleeping bags though
  • A real hidden Gem. Probably the best climbing centre we've been too. Great lovelly knowledgeable staff and well worth the trip.
  • Great instruction for a very mixed group from 7 to 43 years. Everyone enjoyed their experience.
  • Imaginative use of space, well planned. Boulder area on the small side and not the best marked problems.ain area looks very good with with challenges catering to all abilities. A bit pricey.
