Lytes Cary Manor Reviews
A friend recommended we visit here - and rightly so too. It was a showery day and we were grateful for the small restaurant for shelter. It really is somewhere for a light snack rather than a full blo... more »
Lytes Cary is a lovely old Manor house built in the 15th century, replacing the original 13th century manor house. It's a comfortable home, not at all pretentious and has a peaceful and warm atmospher... more »

A hidden gem, this place is quite compact but it's perfectly laid out and really pretty. I've been here many times over the years and it's just got better- the house is very interesting and is small enough to be easily digestible, the garden has a lot more to it than it looks and is lovely at all times of the year. There's a tea room, gift shop, plant sales and second hand bookshop all of which are usual National Trust fare and there's a series of great walks around the estate along by the river and fields.
A good (off the main road) destination - the main attraction to me is the opportunity for countryside walks off the beaten track. Ample parking, good tearoom and a selection of plants etc. available for sale. The formal gardens are quite small but elegantly laid out and interesting.
Interesting house and gardens. Good stopover for an hour or two on way to West Country. Good tea room even if not Nat Trust member.
A magnificent Manor House located in beautiful Somerset. This is a superb property offering walks around the estate, informative room guides and beautiful gardens. I have dropped one star as the parking facilities are not the best, so I'd strongly recommend going early or phoning in advance.
Walks around the forest is very pleasant for children and adults. A few games to be played in the forest or in the grass. The house has lots of history and interesting furniture. Staff is very helpful explaining all the history behind everything in the house
