  • My friend and I visited WHF for the first time last Friday, and took part in the Big Cat Tour. The whole day was brilliant. Our tour guide was Tanith, who was really lovely, she was very knowledgeable...  more »
  • Fabulous place to visit big cats. Staff were very friendly and helpful, lovely lunch and most importantly the animals are obviously well cared for.
  • Just a brilliant place, well run and just the most wonderful experience. The array of big cats was amazing and the jaguar was incredible. We stayed overnight in one of the lodges and had dinner there....  more »

  • Brilliant stay in one of the lodges woken to the roar of the Lions! All the people working at the place were friendly and very knowlegeable of all the cats we got to see. Food in the morning and the evening was top notch and the whole feel of the stay was well worth the cost. If you want to get up close and personal with the big cats, this is probably the only place that you can do it without having your hand bitten off! The animals all looked like they were loved and cared for. Brilliant place!
  • I went on the Ranger Experience, which was a whole day (6hrs or so) shadowing and helping out a keeper of the Big Cats. Tasks included cleaning out the enclosures, inside and out (nice to know they do it so frequently!) feeding them (finding interesting places to hide the food to give the cats a challenge and something to do) and then hand feeding at the end of the day - which was fantastic as you could choose who you'd like to go back to. There were plenty of photo-opportunities and good lunch break to catch a breather and check out the gift shop (good for planning ahead what you'd like at the end of the day). You can also film the cats too, which is amazing as all of them are very happy to talk! The staff were friendly and informative, often checking to see if I was doing well and enjoying myself without being intrusive about it - the keeper (Gemma) who was showing me around was full of great facts about the cats; she really knew her stuff. She was also very vigilant about security - it was reassuring to see her check the padlocks on the gates, these are, after all, dangerous animals and the measures taken on each enclosure were consistently secured with at least two padlocks, with clear signage and fencing far enough to keep you out of paws reach, but close enough for great viewing and photo opportunities. It's also good to see that it's not as open as a Zoo, or other wildlife park. The limited amount of public that can pass through not only gives you the chance to view the animals in a relaxed state, but is reassuring that these great cats, big and small, are afforded privacy. The enclosures are large and well 'furnished' with trees, bushes and climbing points, which meant you got to see the cats stretch themselves out, explore and go about their 'cat business' as they pleased which is a joy to see. Highly recommended, well worth the price as you know it goes towards the welfare of the animals. ~Emma Levey
