Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton

(4.4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Weald & Downland Open Air Museum recreates over 500 years of rural English life by providing real examples of buildings, tools, food, and crafts from the homesteads of the countryside. You’ll find a farmhouse, cattle sheds, a granary, a windmill, several types of barns, and 50 other buildings, all carefully dismantled and rebuilt on the site. Look at traditional tools and watch demonstrations about life in a by-gone era. Try the cooking made in the traditional Tudor kitchen and buy crafts--all made the old fashioned way--from the artisans working on site. Take the dog for a walk around the grounds to get a look at the farm animals. • Amazing historical buildings and friendly informative staff. Great day out for all. Could even get a buggy around 90% of it as well.
  • Rally nice day out, food on site with lots to look around and do. Mostly outdoors so take a brolly if it's raining. Will return.
  • Were here ten years ago and liked it, but this time it were as if nothing has happened in ten years. Has the volunteers completely taken over with no control at all ? Exhibitions standing season for season without even cleaning the places, Repairs on well done historic builds with modern materials, modern materials everywhere in the historic surroundings - visible plastic hoses leding into medieval houses and on and on it goes. Has the new entrance building taken all the energy from the leading personel or do they just don´t care anymore about the main attraction ?
  • Fascinating, beautifully presented buildings with friendly and knowledgeable guides. Rather expensive, especially with the default £1.50 'gift aid' penalty - ask for a standard entry. Having activities (e.g. treasure hunt/clue sheets) for children would be very useful in keeping them engaged.
  • This museum never disappoints, the houses are really interesting and the staff are very informative and friendly. As a family we love spending days out here.
