Weald & Downland Living Museum, Singleton

4.6
Weald & Downland Living Museum recreates over 500 years of rural English life by providing real examples of buildings, tools, food, and crafts from the homesteads of the countryside. You’ll find a farmhouse, cattle sheds, a granary, a windmill, several types of barns, and 50 other buildings, all carefully dismantled and rebuilt on the site. Look at traditional tools and watch demonstrations about life in a by-gone era. Try the cooking made in the traditional Tudor kitchen and buy crafts--all made the old fashioned way--from the artisans working on site. Take the dog for a walk around the grounds to get a look at the farm animals. • Went here back in 70s and it still has a remarkable charm about it . Christmas time is specially nice as malden wine and mice pies are plentiful.  more »

  • Loved this place. It's £15 for an adult but well worth it. Spent all day here. The village is well presented and being able to walk round the houses and touch all the furniture was fantastic. Good live demonstrations from the blacksmith and kitchens. Highly recommended.
  • There is enough here to keep you occupied for a 2-4 hours. Staff were all very informative. The new visitor centre was well designed, also very informative.I would recommend going here when there are events being held, as I felt this would be of more interest, and better value for your money.
  • So many fascinating buildings and artifacts. The children love looking around the houses and asking about all the old items. There are only a few guides but they are very helpful and knowledgeable. A great day out.
  • Visitor Centre great .. activities interactive and wonderful for children. Site is very widespread with gravel paths and cobbles difficult for anyone with mobility issues to get around. Would benefit from more disabled-friendly transport. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable.
  • Very nice outdoor museum of old buildings. We've been to similar places around the world and this museum is very good. We particularly enjoyed talking with the costumed volunteers - they added a lot of context to the environment. The new visitor center was not open yet, but looks quite spectacular. We'll come back again on another trip.
