  • What a pleasant surprise! We were looking for a place to break our car journey from North Wales back to London, and somehow settled for Hawkstone Park Follies near Shrewsbury (Shropshire) based on reviews in Trip Advisor and Google. I had never heard of it before. Their website describes it as ”an historic woodland fantasy with cliffs, crags, caves, deep woods and a series of extraordinary monuments built over 200 years ago”. Still, we were not quite sure what to expect. There are different trails taking from 1 to 3 hours. It was such fun that the kids didn't complain walking for over 2 hours. In the end, it was one of the highlights of our holiday. Well worth the detour if you're in the area.
  • Fantastic place to bring the family and the dogs. A bit of a climb up to the top but once up there is loads to explore. A column you can climb to the top of, a cave system to explore, bridges, den making, loads of park and picnic spots, little huts and all sorts of sculptures hidden in the garden. Bring a picnic and you can spend half a day here easily. There are magnificent views from the top as well. Not a National Trust or Heritage property but admittance is quite reasonable.
  • Fantastic day out. Stunning views and beautiful features of the victorian theme park. Kids always love going here. Plenty of places to have a picnic and with lots of parking and good amenities.
  • A wonderful and magical location situated in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. The follies were created in the 1700's but fell into disrepair only to be resurrected in the late twentieth century and opened as a country park. It's an amazing place to take the whole family and the walks range from very easy (1 hour) to moderate (3 hours). Please note that the whole walk isn't suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
  • Beautiful park and follies. A really lovely place to spend a few hours. The tea room is at the start/end so bring a packed lunch if you want to eat mid-walk. Water is essential. You don't need to be super-fit but you do need to be able to cope with steep steps and a few hour's slow walking. Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Great if you love steps! (-1 star for the tatty toilets.)
